Better late than ever, Sabres celebrate first CPHL championship
Team wins big to end 16-2 run
Prospal and Penner lead way
The Buffalo Sabres ended the 09 playoffs with a 8-4 win to cap a tremendous season. With GM Looooob wandering Europe it has taken a while to cap off the celebration.
The team played a typical Sabres game getting scoring from throughout the lineup in the win. Dustin Penner and Vaclav Prospal end the playoffs as the top 2 scorers .
"We felt we had a great season all year long, and this playoff run was no fluke-although 16 -2 would have been hard to predict" said Looooob"people may remember we had a big run of injuries especially to our D in midseason which slowed us down, but otherwise we felt we were amongst the top clubs in the league. In an offseason that saw the team a little criticized for adding experienced expensive players such as Fedorov, Sydor, Langenbrunner, Prospal and Lydman at the expense of cheaper options it was all part of a team plan for more experience. We were full of good young players in the past , but we wanted a different mix this year, we built on this by adding the likes of Grier, Yelle and Bonk at the deadline"
Still, expect an offseason of change in Buffalo as several key UFAs, including Prospal , Giguere and Langebrunner, several key RFAs including Green and playoff hero Penner as well as coach Ron Wilson need to be dealt with.
"Cap room won't be a problem for us I don't think" said Loooob "but we need to change, status quo likely won't win us another one, no -one amongst our UFAs, and that includes JSG should consider themselves safe to come back"
But for now they are one, and they are CPHL champions
