Default Burn .m2t video file to dvd?

Hey guys, I had a friend video tape a seminar thing that we did, and he gave it to me in an m2t file format. Does anyone know what I can use to burn this?

I think if you just rename it to .mpg you will find lots of your favorite programs will work with the video just fine.

Try these if you want a (potentially) really fast option.

You can burn it as-is for playback on a PS3. [link]

An interesting discussion on renaming m2t files to mpg. [link]

Here's my recommendation: {partially taken from this discussion}

- Download and install Squared 5 MPEG Streamclip [link]
- Open the .m2t file in the application.
- Click on "Convert to MPEG". (this converts M2T to MPEG-2, which is the industry standard for consumer DVD burning)

This could take awhile.

- After the conversion takes place, you should have a fully functional mpg or mpeg (they're the same) file, to be handled by any DVD burning or authoring software you have. (ie. Toast for Mac; Windows Media Center, or Nero, etc, etc, etc, for Windows)

IF you wish to take full advantage of the inherent high definition quality of your m2t file, you may choose to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the m2t file to a different file type instead of MPEG-2 (MPEG-4, AVI, DV, etc, come to mind). These HD file types may not play on regular DVD players, but they will result in much higher quality playback on compatible BD players or, sometimes, up-converting DVD players.

In other words: it is possible to burn a full HD quality video on to a DVD. Drawbacks: it will only hold ~20 minutes worth, and the DVD or BD player must be able to read the high definition format.

If you're choosing to burn to a Blu-ray Disc, then that's a whole different ballgame. I'm sure it would look sweet, but right now the software to do so is quite expensive.
