Default building permit

how do you get a building permit for a deck? do you just draw it on a peice of paper or does it have to be done on your real property report? I'm getting my deck build and the company im hiring said that i have to get the building permit. I thought the contractor got those.

Thanks

From the city of Calgary Website. That should tell you what you need. It shouldn't be that hard, just a couple of pages. They should accept the plans if they are neat.

I think it depends on the contractor if they will get the permit for you or not. I know from a basement point of view they'll take a napkin sketch but I am sure that you could do better than that.

If the deck is less than 2ft from the grade you don't need a permit. Above 2ft you need the permit and railing.

If you build the deck as a stand-alone structure it may not need a permit, or maybe it just doesn't count toward property tax.
