Computer Speakers: worth it?
Im trying to find some form of audio output for our office, and am wondering what the best (cheapish) options are. Our space is about 500 square feet, and we would run all our music through itunes (most likely wirelessly). Obviously we don't need concert quality, but it would be nice to get the best audio possible.
Are there any option out there that outdo the $100-$150 you spend on computer speakers? I assume for that price there isn't much of an option, but I just wanted to make sure.
If computer speakers are indeed the best option, any particular brand or model that people here can recommend?

Logitech Z-5500. As far as computer speakers go, these pretty much take the cake. They're compatible to mp3 players, computer audio outputs, or more conventional home audio systems, like standalone CD players... lots of input options.
They're very well regarded. Look for as many reviews as you can. They should be available from most audio and/or computer retailers, I'd think.
To give you an idea, here is a pricing comparison - in Canadian dollars - from a number of Canadian e-tailers (first link), followed by another reputable Canadian e-tailer (second link):

I love my new Bose Companion 3 speakers (about US$250). I've also got a set of JBL Creatures, and even though I'm not a total audio nerd, I can tell the Boses are better. I wasn't sold at first on the "puck" control, but sometimes it's nice to not have to go to the computer to mute or adjust the volume.

I've heard about these often (around CP mainly, but still often enough to notice).

If you get these speakers, it doesn't matter what you use them for... you will not be disappointed. They're seriously that good.

I have had the set the OBCT posted for 2.5 years.
I won't hesitate to recommend them.

At the end of they day, I recommend pretty much anything made by logitech. Save for maybe that keyboard with the display built into it they releaesd a year ago or so, I hear that one didn't work out so well.
Mice, most keyboards, speakers. All top notch stuff.

If you want a set of 2.1 speakers, all you need are a set of
Logitech Z2300s. I own 2 sets , fantastic speakers.
You can pick then up at Staples for around $150 on sale.

Logitechs are good but the subs are way too boomy and not very tight. Plus the speakers lack a tweeter so you get all highs and no mids.
Id recommend getting a receiver + Paradigm speakers + Paradigm sub

A receiver for computer audio? That would be intense when you get an error message. ERROR
You'd wake the neighbors up.
