I know some of the older people in my family used to do this. They'd hide money all over the place... cookie jars, under floor boards, burried in the yard. You can't always trust banks and you never know when the Turks or Russians are going to invade...

Jeez, that's harsh and judgmental. Seems like an innocent mistake to me, which just happened to cost an old woman her life savings. That's terrible.

This is why I hate people who throw things away.
If you have a family member or a friend who has kept something for years and never thrown it away - IT IS NOT A HAPPY SURPRISE OR FAVOR OR ANYTHING for them for you to throw that item way without telling them.
