Everyone should give to at least one charity that alleviates poverty and child suffering in Third World nations; if nothing else, your money goes a lot farther in these countries than it does with charities closer to home (although many of those have their merits as well). Personally I favour Unicef, but there are many other worthy organizations out there; the easiest way is to let them take a bit off your credit card every month - you will barely notice the cost and you'll do a lot of good.
The Globe & Mail link discussing India is excellent; truly horrifying how a nation that has progressed so much economically can still have such a huge number of malnourished children. Reading how that one man can spend half his income on cigarettes while his wife and child starve really makes me angry and almost ashamed to share the same gender as that misogynist fool.
