Default All Inclusives during the "low season"

I am thinking of taking me wife to a beach vacation this summer, end July/early August. Mexico is out, too difficult to swim in a bullet proof vest.

Has anyone one:
  • Taken trips to all inclusives during the low season, ie: our summer? Are the pluses/minuses?
  • Suggestions on where to go?
BTW, I am also considering Las Vegas, but I am suspecting that at the end of the day, the trips would cost the same.

Cheers

As I ype this, I'm sitting in an all inclusive resort in Mexico. Save a few guards at the airport, everything is the same as it was the last time. I'm just south of Cancun and from what I hear, all the bad stuff is happening up north.

We went to the Bahamas last July, and it was VERY VERY hot. I LOVE the sun, but it was even too hot for me.

I recommend Punta Cana. The beaches were very nice there, and there are often good deal for there.

I do recommend a beach over Las Vegas. We just got back from Vegas, and spent more than we did in the Dominican.

Keep in mind that summer is hurricane season in the Caribbean...so, make sure that you can get a refund (either through the resort or through travel insurance) if your resort is hit while you are there or right before you arrive.

You're surfing Calgary Puck while on vacation in Mexico at an all inclusive?

I was at one in December and the weather was a bit off that week. I did eventually get to the point where I had done enough book reading and with the weather not all that impressive...I went inside to surf the net for 30 minutes.

I've been to a lot of all inclusives in Mexico. ie. Cancun, Peurto Vallarta, Los Cabos, and the Riveria Maya. There all nice but the beaches in Cancun are really nice and the water is nice too. About 5 years ago I went to Jamaica and that was an ubelievable expericene. The resort was Beaches and it had everything so i wan't bored at all (all inclusive of course) Also went to the Bahamas last year and stayed at this one all inclusive that was terrible. I forgot the name but regardless the place was disgusting so we moved over to the Atlantis and it was night and day. One of the most unbelieveable places i ever stayed at but it wasn't all inclusive.

Again it just depends on where you want to go and what you and your wife's preference's are.

We just got back from Mexico and it was awesome, is safe depending where you go. It's weird because we went there with no reservations and didn't know where we were going to stay till we got there..and we got excellent rates because they called february their off season..have no idea why..you get better rates if you actually go there first, then dicker with them when u get there..we got a great rate at a beautiful ocean front all inclusive..and we could almost spit on the beach from our room.. and it was under 100 u.s a night!

I'm glad this thread got brought up. I've been lookin at All-Inclusives in the Mayan Riviera for the past week now. Me and the girl are gonna head down that way at the end of June. So far I'm likin the look of Catalonia Riviera Maya, as its got a reef right on the resort, we want a hotel you can snorkel at. Anyone ever stay here before?

I know we're runnin a risk goin to the Caribbean that close to hurricane season, but I'm a college student and am gonna be takin spring classes this year so that's as early as I can go unfortunately. I'm glad someone mentioned the refund bit through insurance if we get destroyed with horrible weather. As for the heat that time of year, bring it on! I was in Cabo in August last year and I LOVED it. I hope its close to 40 degrees every day(save for the days when we go to Chichen Itza and Coba. That would kinda suck).

Perhaps the best time IMHO. Weve been to many and the benefit is the resort is only half full or less. Costs you half to get there and you have far better service.

Cuba is better than Mexico...for you Cowtowners its a longer flight though.
Check all of the Caribbean before choosing and definately use Debbies to check the resort first.

Chances of hurricanes in July is minimal. Weve been many places in July/Aug and never had a strong wind let alone a 'Cane.
September seems to be the worst time for the big winds.

I am not a fan of Mexico by any means, but my brother works in Monterray and said he hasnt seen any violence to speak of. Also he has been to all the resorts durring his teaching stint (going to Acapulco this week or already there) and says there is no problem at the resorts at all.

Just an FYI.

I could see that. I'd actually love to escape the throngs of Mexico, I could see me getting annoyed pretty quick if I ended up at a "spring-breaky"-kinda hotel. I actually looked at the Dominican alot before we booked.

For me though, I'm goin Mexico because I'm dyin to see the Mayan ruins. I'm planning on going to Chichen Itza, Coba and Tulum. That's why Mexico wins out over the rest of the Caribbean for me. Once I've seen em though, I'm sure the next time I'll go elsewhere.

I have to second and third this opinion. My wife and I were married at Moon Palace in the Mayan and this place was frikkin incredible. If you don't want to go to Mexico, check out the Palace or the Riu resorts. Both equally amazing.

One thing about the Riu resorts. They always seem to have alot of deals. I'd check them out first and then take a look at Palace.

in response to hurricane season. I think the actual hurricane season runs from June to Oct, but they are more likely to hit in Sep. Although it doesnt seem to hit as often as say Florida (maybe its just the news).

I have been the Mayan Riveria twice in June (for 2 weeks) and once in August and have never seen even a strong wind storm.
