Default MSN IM on iphone

Sorry to pull this out of the thread on the iphone, but I am wondering if anyone has used an IM client for iphone that is compatible with MSN Messanger, and if so what there experience is.

I am using the sms tool to communicate with my5 on rogers, but want to have an IM option as well that does not use text messaging.

Fring is an all-purpose IM app and VOIP app you can get in the app store. The VOIP isn't the greatest but the MSN portion is good. It might cost a few bucks, can't remember.

Meebo is a free web-based IM app that works with MSN. Not as good as Fring but it works.

I use the free "IM+ lite", and it works great for MSN. You can pay for the regular version to do things like sending photos and it incorporates other IM programs as well. But for MSN the free one is really good.

Yeah I use Fring as well, supports MSN and Skype (and others). And I didn't pay for it so it at least used to be free.

Keeping in mind that it only works when the app is running, it doesn't run in the background.

This is pretty much the reason my phone remains IM free for the time being. Hopefully the push features coming in the summer will make messengers more friendly.

I use BeeJive. It's not free but if you're serious about IM, it's worth it. It even does push-email alerts when someone's trying to chat with me (since the iPhone doesn't support background apps).

It's been around on other phones forever. It's a well-established application, with well-established support and a very professional approach.

They also have a free, web-based version that only works in Safari on the iPhone itself: http://iphone.beejive.com (I haven't used the web-based one, so I have no clue how it works).

I decided to go with IM+ Lite, cause the price was right. If it sucks, I will try again - so far it looks alright.
