Late season choke forces Oilers into tough choices
Tommorrow the CPHL Oilers could win their playoff game and finish into 6th in the Howe Conference. But if the team fails to pick up at least an overtime loss they will certainly end up in 9th place and out of the playoffs. The team chasing them is the LA Kings and you can bet your most prized possession that the Kings will roll over the Stars tommorrow.
That left a 50-50 chance that the Oilers season would be done. The team has had 3 albatross contracts that we were unable to unload all year and knew we'd face a choice like this. Tonight Karlis Skrastins, Kyle Calder, and Brad Lukowich were all released from the team. All had been decent SIM players this year, but with all these players facing down rates next year and having contracts worth more than their current ratings the team had to make a tough choice and cut ties. Furthermore to make room backup goalie Jocelyn Thibualt and forward Tyler Arnason have been waived as the team required additional cap room.
These new rules are in place for a reason regarding buyouts and I hoped I would have a lot easier choice to make. But we had to make the choice that we viewed as the lesser of two evils.
