I proposed a Guitar Tab draft in the contest forum.
How many would be interersted in that? Are there copyright problems for CP in posting or linking guitar tabs?

I play a mean air guitar. Van Halen's Eruption is my specialty. Especially after about a dozen or so beers.

For the past 10 years+ I've been working on "Eugene's Trick Bag" from the Crossroads movie. Goes without saying that anything Steve Vai is very difficult, hopefully I'll be able to play it through before I'm 50.
Albums and songs I've been learning and playing:
Guns N' Roses - Appetite
Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing
The Cult - Sonic Temple
Mott the Hoople - All the Young Dudes
Megadeth - Rust in Peace
Skid Row - Skid Row
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar
Rush - Limelight
Paul Gilbert - Get out of my yard
Van Halen - 1984
Living Colour - Time's Up
Propagandi
Killswitch Engage
Acoustic:
Tom Petty
Kathleen Edwards
Cosby, Stills, Nash & Young

I've spent about $3000 in guitar and keyboard stuff in the past 5 years (starting from not knowing how to play either at all, only started keyboard a month ago actually) and really, more than anything, I need some musical friends or people to play with or teach me new stuff.
It gets tiring just playing to tabs or sheetmusic and trying to learn on your own. I've really hit that wall where I want to play music but not having proper training and I just don't know how to play or I can't progress any further on my own.
I just play a mish-mash of things, no real full songs. The only 2 full songs I can play on guitar with even a mild approximation of the solos (but I will never be able to shred I don't think) is Dokken's "In My Dreams" and Whitesnake's "Love Ain't No Stranger". I play a few bars of Little Wing and Lennie from SRV. I'm trying to figure out how to play some Prince songs or learn some funk playing. I can only do the intro to "Purple Rain". I've got a funky groove for "Do Me Baby" and a simple progression for "Little Red Corvette". For acoustic songs I can sing along to, the only ones I can do are the joke song from the UK Office "Freelove Freeway" and John Waite's "Missing You". Otherwise, mostly what I do is just play lead and solo over backing tracks with pure improv as I have too much ADD to learn new songs note by note.
For the keyboard I just got, I'm just fooling around. Playing with reworking some oldschool jazz and funky sounds like the rhodes piano melody that you can hear in Warren G's "The Regulators" that comes from "Sign of the Times" by Bob James and the slap bass bassline that comes from Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)" that was performed by Louis Johnson.
If these are all strange combinations of music choices, you are right! And even wierder is I'm a mid 20s asian kid!

Piano / Keyboards
Play pretty much anything.
Like playing:
Beethoven: Moonlight Sonata, Pathetique Sonata
Bach: French suites, some of the well-tempered clavier
Mendellsohn: Some really pretty melodies
Mozart: First and second movements of Sonata #15
80s keyboard music: Jump, Final countdown, Billy Joel, Chicago, etc...
specialty / unique: Live keyboard drumming, Lead guitar stuff (thunderstruck)

I mentioned this in another thread a long time ago but nobody seemed interested.
CP has(had?) a book club. How about a CP music club or some way to get together. At least for me, I'd like to meet some other amateur or beginner musicians and just jam or help each other out or to share tips, etc. or learn. None of my other friends are interested in music or instruments.
If I make a Calgary Pluckers group on FB, anybody want to join?

I wouldnt be able to come very often but I could probally get away when I do come up once in a while
Edit: And H&L thats sounds pretty much that same as me... except I found some people to jam with... its way better then playing over backing tracks.
I don know many songs in their entirity either... it gets too boring to me...

That's awesome. I'm usually pretty good at drum-rolling my fingers to the opening of "Hot For Teacher." We should start a Van Halen cover band.

When I was a kid my dad would pull the same gag every year-- "I got you an air guitar for Christmas ha ha ha".
The punchline was that he really didn't buy me anything. "Maybe next year, son..."
