The video game idea is awesome. Hopefully they can get that done and done well.

From what I've gathered, they are selling the rights to name the game, not the trophy. So it would be "The Labatt's Grey Cup on CBC", or something like that. I'd be all for this, if it helped out the league. $10 mil is a lot of money for our small league, and I want to see the CFL thrive. I don't think they'd ever change the name of The Grey Cup itself, would they?
I would love to see a CFL video game for my PS2. I know my interest in the NFL only began after playing Madden football. Imagine what a CFL game could do, as far as bringing young fans on board.
I'm also looking forward to the CFL expansion. Another team out east would make this a truly Canadian league, and a 10 team format would work so much better for scheduling. I hope the CFL can grow to the point where it could support 12 teams, eventually. Tom Wright seems to be a man with a vision and I think he's going to do great things for the CFL.

I love the idea of a video game but can't see it happening - especially one done well let's say for the PS2. The costs to develop a video game are huge and due to the differences between the NFL and CFL game, I doubt the CFL game developers could 'piggy back' off an already developed game (i.e. - Madden) because of all the differences. Yes, they're both football but 1 extra player, 1 less down, different rules and a bigger field change the entire AI of the game. And even though I think it would be great and it would attract younger and more fans to the CFL, I don't think the Canadian/CFL fan video game playing market is big enough to offset the development costs of the game.

I'm going to have to disagree with you here. Now is the perfect time for the CFL to get it's own video game. As a lot of you know, EA Sports signing an agreement with the NFL making Madden the only game allowed to use NFL logos, etc. EA Sports also recently signed an agreement to use the ESPN overlays, etc. This leaves Sega Sports with very little. If they want to keep making sports games, the only logical choice is a CFL game. A generic football game isn't going to sell, especially since Madden basically has a monopoly on the football market (due to casual gamers who don't consider their choices, but purchase the most popular game). A CFL game, IMO, would certainly outsell a generic football game with no real teams or players.
Yes, the changes from an NFL to CFL game would be numerous, but you have to factor in that the basic engine is already in place. They don't need to build a new graphics engine from scratch or a franchise. I don't know too much about game developing, but I'd say it's definitely easier to tweak an existing game than to build from scratch.

I'm not disagreeing with you - I think it would be great for the CFL to get a video game out there. I think the costs may be too much for it to be feasible though. I don't much about game development either but from comments posted on other boards from program/game developers, they were speculating that a new engine would have to be built because of all the differences between the NFL and CFL game. I don't know - I hope you're right but if a new engine has to be developed, the CFL game is toast IMO.

I would rather the league have coporate sponsors names be on the half time show not the game as a total.

there already is/was a cfl video game made my wintervalley (????) http://www.wintervalley.com/cfl_99/
I actually downloaded the demo once it was kind of like the old madden, very very old like the first 3 or 4 seasons worth but not a bad first attempt I guess if they could get a reputable company on board to make the game I would definately buy it
