Default I'm not as fat as I thought

Hit the gym today for the first time in forever. First thing I did was hit the scale to check out the bad news. Turns out I'm down about 16lbs from Christmas, so a slim, trim 237. Sure getting hit with the flu helped out with things, but I prefer to think it's me watching what i eat and trying to take care of myself.

So help me CP, looking for some diet/ dinner ideas as well as some good stuff to try at the gym. I'm not looking to get huge, merely skinny myself out so I look sexy in my shorts this summer.

Yep, sure is. Done the same thing with Gatorade after a night of drinking.

Remember man, if you're looking to slim down, pay most attention to your diet. Only protein sources, fresh fruits, low-fat items and a bit of complex carbs. Exercise is great, but it all starts and ends with your diet. That's the NUMBER ONE thing to focus on if you want to slim down.

For example, if you like eggs, don't eat the yolk, just the egg whites. Also, stay away from fruit juices and eat real fruit, and try consuming more extra lean meat, cottage cheese and nuts for your protein sources. One more thing, don't eat after 8 or 9 p.m. You shouldn't go to bed when your food is still digesting.

I don't get home from work til 9. My issue seems to be that I'm craving "dinner" when I get home even after eating luch at 6pm

What time do you go to bed? You need at least two hours for your stomach to fully digest, not to mention you need ideally 6-8 hours per night of sleep for your body to accept a healthy diet plan.

You're going to have to bring small meals to work, and make sure they're just enough to get you not hungry. That means a breakfast, a morning lunch, a lunch, an afternoon lunch, and afternoon snack, a dinner, and maybe a post-workout protein shake. You should be eating small meals every 2-3 hours, and only to the point where you're satisfied and not hungry, not to the point where you're full.

I stress that because gorging on three meals a day is not the best way for your body to survive. 6-8 small meals a day is ideal for an active guy looking to lose weight.

It's quite the lifestyle adjustment, but after a week or two it gets to be second nature. And don't forget to do about a half hour of cardio a day, either walking, running, biking, climbing or something similar. Something that works the mid-section a bit (but not too much), and a consistent sweat is ideal. Combine this with a good diet and you'll have the d'Angelo hip lines in no time - guaranteed.

Ozy makes great points. My dad is currently in weight cutting mode and he just won't listen to me regarding the importance of diet. He thinks he can just walk it all off/work it off and I don't think he realizes just how much physical activity is required when you eat that much gravy.

I can attest to the fact that exercise alone is not enough - at least after you hit 30. I've been working out as hard (harder actually) than I did 5 or 6 years ago and have seen zero in the weight loss department. I've gained muscle for sure, but I'm still too damn big and now my feet are starting to give out from the impact.

Diet has to change.....tomorrow....

For some reason, this thread reminded me of this old yarn of 10 years ago...
But trust me, in 20 years, you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked. You are not as fat as you imagine.
