Default SUV hitch

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to put a hitch on my SUV, so that I can put a bike rack on it. I don't need any wiring done, because I am not going to be pulling a trailer with it. Where is a good place to do this? Reading some of the reviews online, it seems people have had some bad experiences.

Thanks for your help

When I needed a hitch on my old truck, the best price was at Uhaul on that street that runs parallel to Blackfoot. It was only $200 or so. The Hitch Shop was more like $350. I don't really trust their trucks, so after I got it done, I inspected it and confirmed that they did a good job. Just had to take their stupid UHaul sticker off of it.

Without the wiring, don't you just need to drill a few holes into the frame and bolt these on?

I bought a hitch from Racks Unlimited. I took it home to install myself because it saved on the price. There are holes in the frame already to bolt the hitch to, but I spent an hour figuring out that the hitch was bent from the get go and wouldn't line up with the frame. I had to take it back to Racks, they said it was a common problem with hitches(caused in shipping). They straightened it and installed it no charge.

Why not just buy a rack that goes on the back of the suv instead of the hitch style?

The new goggles also do nothing.

Depends on the SUV, but I couldn't find one that would fit with my Murano.. went to a couple of places and they couldn't find a convenient place to hook it to under the bumper that didn't run over the exhaust (which would probably melt the strap). So a hitch rack or a roof rack were the other options.

My SUV won't fit a rack that goes on the back either. They couldn't find a place for it to clip on. I really don't want to get a roof rack because it seems like a big headache!

I think I will try the Uhaul if nobody else adds any suggestions. There are just too many poor reviews on the Hitch Shop online.

The Hitch Shop was likely matching the hitch to the towing capacity of the vehicle. A good hitch shop won't put anything on rated less.

I took mine to the Car Guys Appearance Center on Bannister Road in the south. Pretty good service and I think I paid $300-$350ish with the wiring.

Wouldn't it just go under the edge of the hatch and not over the bumper though?

Al the ones I saw went over the bumper, that one looks like it would work, what does it hook onto inside the vehicle though? Or is it hooking onto the edge itself?

EDIT: Watched the install video and it just hooks onto the edge, yeah that looks like it would work.

I got a hidden hitch on my Jimmy from a guy that runs a shop outside of Cochrane. Ran me about $240 for the hitch and labour. If you're interested PM me and I can try and find his phone number.
