Question Family who are 'too lazy to work' say £22,000 worth of benefits is not enough

Quote:
The Chawners, haven't worked in 11 years, claim their weight is a hereditary condition and the money they receive is insufficient to live on.

Mr Chawner said: "What we get barely covers the bills and puts food on the table. It's not our fault we can't work. We deserve more."

The family claim to spend £50 a week on food and consume 3,000 calories each a day. The recommended maximum intake is 2,000 for women and 2,500 for men.

"We have cereal for breakfast, bacon butties for lunch and microwave pies with mashed potato or chips for dinner," Mrs Chawner told Closer magazine.

"All that healthy food, like fruit and veg, is too expensive. We're fat because it's in our genes. Our whole family is overweight," she added.
Quote:
Emma, said: "I'm a student and don't have time to exercise" she said "We all want to lose weight to stop the abuse we get in the street, but we don't know how."

I've seen fatter people than that working. One guy I've done business with makes that bunch look like bulimic supermodels.

I suggest they get jobs where they can sit all day and do nothing more strenuous than typing on a keyboard. Well, actually I suggest someone throws them in a jail cell for six months on a diet of snappy sitcoms and expired cell phone batteries, but those wishy-washy liberal judges will never agree. Jerks.

I think 1/3 people down here in California are that obese. I don't know why Americans (at least in Denver, and South Bay California) are so much fatter then Canadians. Americans live pretty similar life styles, eat the same types of food...?

Or are foods in the USA less regulated and (for instance, McDonalds) have more fat in them?

I have seen fatter people work in McDonalds, one of my substitute teachers was about the size of 2 of them combined. I obviously don't know if their fatness is hereditary or not, but seriously, your not helping yourself eating all that crap a day. Either way, I have no sympathy for lazyness, which is what I think this is, but obviously I am not their doctor.

When I visited Floriada I figured out why people are so fat in the States. Because they go out to eat A LOT, and when they go out they eat A LOT. I could barely finish my waffle when I went to "I Hop" and saw the amount of food some of the people were eating, and how they were pigging out. Sickening.

Exactly there's got to be at least some data entry or phone work they can do, gimme a break. The dad isn't even that fat.

And I'm the only one sick about hear fat being glandular or hereditary? I'll agree that a lot of signs show that there is a predisposition that would make it harder for certain people to be thin. And that a very small % of people do have a serious condition that makes them very fat. But it seems like 1 out of 3 wanna use this excuse when like any disease the odds of having it are in the percentage of a percent.

And was I the only evil person who laughed at this part? 'Mr Chawner said: "What we get barely covers the bills and puts food on the table.'

Hmmm maybe this isn't a completely terrible thing?

Ok, I'll be saving spots in hell for anyone who wants to join me.

For the record I don't make fun of fat people (or any other grouping). But fat people who don't wanna work? I'm thinking that might be fair game.

It's wits like this that really make me want to emigrate for England.

Now I'm not exactly thin myself, in fact I'm decidedly chunky, but to say I couldn't work because of it? Pathetic, plain and simple.

Maybe, just maybe your whole family is fat because none of them can get their snouts out of the trough.

And I can guarantee that they'll have Cable tv, mobile phones and the internet.

Pisses me off, I can tell ya.

I truly and honestly hope that some kind soul, upon reading this article, will take the time to find the Chawners and puts a bullet in the back of each of their heads...

I doubt you'd find a sane "liberal" who would disagree here.

These people are a disgrace to humanity.

Hah, I work with a guy who weighs around 450 lbs., none of them can be over 300.

And yeah, there are fat homeless people. It's because they only eat crappy cheap food, and their body turns almost all intaken food into fat, to compete against cold and store energy for when they need it. It's a survival tool.

Send this guy to see them....

I work with guys that are easily 400 pounds and make lots of dough. These people are just lazy and to suggest that it costs more for Veggies is a lie.

It is more expensive to eat fresh healthy food as opposed to frozen pre-packaged crap. This is coming from someone who recently changed their diet to a much healthier one.

Well, when you have to feed four prize hogs, veggies might get a little pricey...

Dion's headline really should read: "Family who are too lazy to work say £22,000 worth of benefits is not enough"

The thing I love about stories like this is that such people really, honestly, think they are going to get sympathy. The proper result is that the only public outcry that would occur out of this is that they get shamed into going on a diet and getting jobs.

Unfortunately, since this is England, they will probably see the government build them a personal Burger King as an attachment on their house.

if that guy wants to claim he's too fat to work he needs to add atleast another hundred pounds, I've worked with guys easily bigger. As for the women, i have no problem paying them as long as the terms are they have to stay inside their house where i don't have to see them roll down the street.

I don't buy this at all. A big bag of chips costs about $3. You can get a couple pounds of carrots or apples for that amount of money. Bacon is about $4 or $5 a pound while you can get chicken drumsticks or legs for half that price.

I don't know what kind of cereal they're eating but I suspect that oatmeal is cheaper then what they're probably buying.

You can buy whatever you want. I am telling you since I started eating healthier my bills for groceries have increased. I am in no way defending these fat pigs, I was responding the cheese's comment about the cost of food.
