Default Weird flickering on my LCD

So this is an odd one, maybe one of you guys can figure it out.

Bought a LG Flatron W24443T, and it has DVI-D(or s) the computer looking connection and the standard computer one (can't recall the name) VGA maybe?

Anyhow, so with an adapter I went DVI-D to HDMI into my PS3, and then used the VGA into my comp. Now for some reason I get flickering on my screen with the VGA, very noticeable in World of Warcraft, almost intolerable.

If I take the HDMI into the computer it works fine, so I assumed a wire problem; but if both are connected (vga/hdmi) to the computer I get a fine connection on the VGA flipping between them on the LCD.

Its just weird.

I'd try changing your VGA cable. If it's still bad, I'd try and exchange the monitor preferably for one that has DVI and HDMI connections. Digital is better than analogue VGA.

Yeah, I'm gonna head to the store tonight, try the cable first. Its silly all the monitors here that are even remotely decently priced don't have the hdmi's, damn Iceland!

The new goggles also do nothing.

Do you get the flickering if you just have the VGA cable to the monitor and the DVI/HDMI cable removed from the monitor (or not connected to anything)?

If so, it could be a grounding issue where your PC and your PS3 aren't grounded to the same ground so there's a voltage differential between the two and it's messing up the monitor.

Yeah if the VGA is in by itself, it begins to flicker, then while keeping the VGA still in I put the hdmi I get a normal screen.

But the normal screen is the HDMI, cause for some reason it won't let me switch to the VGA one with both in atm.

What if you drop the refresh rate on the VGA side? You only need a 60hz refresh rate for LCD’s

Where would I access that, I don't see an option for this in NVidia control panel.

In windows 7 I right click on empty screen and click Personalize. Than I click on Display than Adjust resolution than Advanced Settings. Choose 'Monitor' and it may give you choices for Screen refresh rate.

Also instead of choosing Monitor choose Adapter and click 'List All Modes'

Ok so after more toying with this, it seems to be a world of warcraft issue only, the settings in vista show 60hz, I've matched that in game and still see the flickering only with the VGA wire, the game works fine with the hdmi/dvi wire.

So again slightly weird, not sure what setting in the game could be doing this because I've toyed with all of them quite a bit with no real results.

What resolution is WoW set to? Same as your monitor resolution?

Yeah the even odder thing is when set to the proper 1920x1080 or whatever it is, thats the flickering, I flip it to a lower setting and get a warning from the screen suggesting I set it to what it should be, yet on the lower setting everything is fine.

The refresh is 60mhz in the game, same as my settings for this monitor.

Bizarre stuff, but I'm gonna head to bed and go over everything again in the morning; I've been knocking my head into a wall too much today lol.

Sounds like you are bumping into the bandwidth limits for that particular cable. A different cable might be better. A shorter cable would definitely help, but even that might not be enough.

Yeah looks like that might just be the culprit, damn you'd think a LCD manufacturer would put a VGA/DVI thats intended for computers to be able to handle its native resolution in a video game.

Don't get crazy, that would imply they think these things through. They package what's cheapest that they can get away with.
