Shaw internet speed increases are live
just a heads up for those on Shaw internet, the speed increases (7.5mb down for regular, 15mb down for extreme) went live last week. for those that are still on the old speeds (5mb, 10mb) you'll likely need to have your modem re-pushed, so you'll need to call into the TSRs to get that done

Sweet! I saw a reference to 100Mbit on Shaw's speed test now, when are we getting some REAL speed???
12Mbit on Shaw's speed test this afternoon, 11.5Mbit on Speakeasy.

I should proviso this actually, no speed increase. Still tested at 17.7 but it's been that way for us for as long as i can remember on extreme.

Shaw speed test only gives me 3.8 MBps and I'm on regular high-speed internet (ie: not lite nor extreme). What's wrong? I upgraded my modem from the old Cybersurf ones to the new blue docsis ones (not the black ones with USB) awhile ago.
In other news, Shaw outsourced their usenet farm to Highwinds and I'm getting over 160 days retention on some groups.

Could be congestion in your subnet? I don't get that much here, but I've heard others complain of that from time to time.
Interesting about the newsgroups, I'll have to check it out again.

Had an idea!

About time.
South Korea increased speeds nation wide to over 100mbps, and mobile network speeds to 10mbps a while ago.

Nice, I just did a speedtest and it came back at 18 Mbits. Looks like they didn't change upload speed at all though.

I got an e-mail from Shaw a while ago about this... but did a speed test and still showed my old 10mbit speed.
But I forgot usually it needs reseting... so just unplug the power cable for 10 seconds or so and plug it back in. Voila, has the new config file and 15mbit. No need to call them to provision it.
