Default Why the discrimination against our vets?

Pretty appalling to read this. No matter when our veterans served or at what age, our vetrans deserve adequate care, and we shouldn't accept anything less.

That we have highly specialized geriatric care available for elderly veterans of WWII and Korea should be commended. That we don't (according to that article anyway) have equally specialized care for younger veterans of more recent conflicts is a travesty.

DVA has really dropped the ball here. If that department wants to remain relevant after the next decade when there are no more remaining members of "the greatest generation", they need to refocus on how to best serve the needs of veterans from more recent conflicts.

Now this is something people should be not only be offended by, but should send some vitriol towards.

And it also sounds like some have actually had to sue the department to try and get benefits.

This time it is Department of Veteran Affairs of Canada that has to apologize to our veterans, not the USA.

The DVA is a completely badly run joke, they do a terrible job of taking care of older vets, and the younger vets that are coming back from Afghanistan are also getting the shaft.

It's awful that our vets are not getting the care that they need, but I don't know that I trust the DVA to actually run a quality health care system. Would we be able to provide better care for veterans by constructing veteran care units within existing hospitals, giving veterans an assurance of available beds and personnel who are experienced with dealing with the unique needs of veterans?

I'd comment, but I don't know the full story. So I'll refrain by judging either side until I do.
