I try to avoid severing any limbs.
Hasn't worked in 20 years, but changing that superstition seems like a bad idea.

I don't believe in superstition but I do value being able to watch the game without distractions. I won't answer the phone at the best of times( why should I as I have two teenagers in the house and one almost teenager) and if I'm watching a Flames game or any sports for that matter not a chance I touch the phone.
If my wife wants to talk to me I keep all answers to one or two words. She knows better and rarely makes an attempt. I give all answers without looking at who I'm talking to and just generally ignore them.
If it's getting annoying I switch to a different game and hope for good things to happen before my return. Not a superstition but more of a wellness thing!!!!!!!

Flames are 14-2-1 when I have red underwear on
However, my girlfriend got me a pair of "I am Canadian" Boxers, and those ones are 5-1 right now when worn on game days
Some how, I don't think the colour of boxers I wear has any effect on the Flames, but just in case...

Nonewhatsoever.
Nothing I do say or wear will affect the Flames game
That's why I say the word SHUTOUT all the time when a goalie is minutes away from getting one

I try to avoid superstitious practices. Can't really tell you why, they just bug me. Perhaps it's the evil eye I get from people when I drop the word "shutout" in a conversation as if I'm the only guy out of 20,000 people in the dome that has said it.

If you're watching the game from home, there's absolutely nothing you can do that will have any affect whatsoever on the outcome of the game. Your favourite player is not going to score an overtime winner if you wear the same pair of dirty, unwashed boxers for the entire playoffs or whatever other crazy superstition you can come up. The only thing that accomplishes is disgusting your wife/girlfriend.
On the other hand, if you're watching the game live at the arena, you can have a small impact on the outcome. Scientific studies have shown that players perform better when feeding off the energy of a home-town crowd, and referees are more likely to call certain penalities (too many men, for example) against the visiting team.

I am not very superstitious either but I do find it fun to do certain things. I wear either a road or home jersey depending on the game. I sit in the same chair at home, it is more of a surround sound thing but my wife knows it's where I have to sit for a game and will let me sit there if she is already there. I grow a playoff beard.
What I don't understand is why people have to rip on other people for being superstitious? Yes, I know nothing I do or say at home will affect the game or a player but it makes watching sports fun for me.
Why do people have to say "shutout" on purpose when they know it specifically bothers other people? Your saying "shutout" does not affect the outcome either so why cause a problem for fellow Flames fans? You know you are just pissing people off by doing it?

I know nothing I do is going to affect the game but since I can not go to very many Flames games live (long commute from Halifax to the Dome), I like to have fun at home with little things. IE -I wave the same small Flames flag during PKs during the playoffs. Why judge someone else on what they do just because it is not what you do?
Nothing I do disgusts my wife, so no harm done.

As you point out you, say the word SHUTOUT all the time when a goalie is minutes away from getting one. Guess what?!?!? That's a superstition. It may sort of be an an anti-superstition but still a superstition.

Who's judging anyone? All I'm saying is that supersitions have no impact at all on the game's outcome. If you still find certain rituals to be fun and they add to your enjoyment of the game, more power to you.

I usually wear my jersey to school/around town on game days, and they haven't won a game yet when I'm wearing a certain pair of Flames boxers, so they've been retired for the time being.
Also, the Flames are undefeated when I am in attendance...so if you want 16 straight wins in the playoffs, all you have to do is fly me to Calgary
Like others have said, I fully realize that nothing I do has an effect on how the team performs. It's just something we as fans try to do to feel like we're contributing to a team that we follow and love so much, and something I always do because it makes watching the games fun (especially when I joke about the superstitions with friends who are watching the game with me).

If I have the chance to sit in my big desk chair and watch the game in my room in it's entirety, we are 16-0-0 this year.
It almost got ruined the other week mind you, but I was unexpectedly called away after the 1st period to pick up my fiancee from school. We lost :<

One thing I have to do is watch the game live. I have a PVR and at times I used to record it because I had to work. However, if I don't watch the game live the Flames are something like 0-7 this season.
That practice was discontinued and work or whatever comes 2nd to making sure I'm watching the opening faceoff to hockey now.
