What Wii Virtual Console Games are "Must Have"
I've really been holding out for Super Mario RPG, but it looks like that isn't going to come. I have Contra, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario 3 and A Link to the Past. What else on there should I look into getting?

Super Mario Cart and/or Mario Cart 64 are pretty fun. Other than that you have the essentials

I'm assuming since you have OOT already, that you already have or played most of the n64 ones, but I still have to throw a shout-out to StarFox 64. My first real n64 game purchase, and probably on my favorites. Paper Mario is also a classic, since you mentioned that you are waiting for (me 2) Mario RPG, you would probably enjoy it.
At the risk of sounding like a graphics whore, and I'm honestly not, none of the old NES games on VC really hold any interest for me, as honestly at this day in age, I dont feel most of the games have really aged that well, and the graphics are too me, unbearable.
The true gems of VC are obviously within its Genesis, and moreso, Super NES library. There are so many great titles between those 2 consoles, that bring back so many good memories to this day. Though I mentioned how the graphics for most of the NES games look like crap, I still love most of the 16 bit stuff from that era, and can still pop those games in today and enjoy them.
Some of my favs would be Comix Zone for the Genesis, this game never really got the credit it deserved, though it was pretty damn hard. The Streets of Rage trilogy, Sonic games which are some of my favorite genesis moments, Shinobi 3, and Phantasy star, if you are a fan at all of J-RPGS.
For Super-NES, Super Metroid is probably one of the best games of the system, though I suppose if your more familiar with the recent GC and wii titles, it'll be a bit of a shock, though I doubt anyone is unfamiliar with retro Samus. Breath of Fire is also another great RPG, and while I love Street fighter 2, if you are at all interested in the series, it would make more sense in waiting for the HD-Remix on 360 or PS3, or better yet, wait for SF4, it looks awesome!
Harvest Moon. Its not necessarily a must have, but something I really recommend. As a kid, I never would have figured a game based around essentially pulling weeds, chopping wood and planting vegetables would be fun stuff, but man, is it addicting. Honestly, the old sprites I feel still look decent, tons of nostalgia value for me.
Heh, not really "Must haves", but more of an excuse for me to talk about a few great VC titles, which at least for me, were great games that I think are still fun today.

If you like a semi-onrails style shooter, that Japanese import N64 game, Sin & Punishment is pretty good (terrible voice acting though, and a messed up typical anime style story).
Super Metroid is of course on the best SNES games, but if you are waiting for Super Mario RPG (don't fret, it was published by Nintendo, so it will eventually come out), I'd recommend Paper Mario.

Devil's Crush is the best pinball ever made. two levels of screens and a whole bunch of bonus stages. It's under the the turbografix console. Alien crush came out before it and is not bad but there is this annoying delay with it shifts from the bottom screen to the top.
I think i played more hours of devils crush on the virt console then all the wii games combined.

Golden Axe III and Super Ghouls and Ghosts are awesome. Punchout was fun and I think I got all the Mario's (Super Mario Bros. 1,2,3, World, Paper and 64) I really can't wait for Marvel vs. Street fighter and that TMNT arcade game.

wow long bump
anyway, just got my wii hooked up to the 'net. Have to say I'm missing some of my favorite games, and hope they come out soon. I was really hoping to buy Cyberball from the genesis (basically robot football. I friggin' loved that game!) and I think it was called super pro bass fishing (or close to that) for SNES. Hopefully they keep releasing titles.
Some good advice in this thread, as a lot of these games I never played, and was wondering about them.
Also wondering if anyone knows about the games in wiiware, such as mario rx and defend your castle. Are any of these any good?

There is hope!!! Mario RPG is being released in Japan this month!
P.S. Dr. Mario online is available on WiiWare. That one is worth every Wii Point!
