I am curious if there any leagues still taking in players? Me and a
friend are trying to find a place to play. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

It really depends on the level you are looking to play at. For more social aspect and just have fun the Calgary Sport and Social club runs a variety of leagues.

If your looking for something more serious there is GHL and Super Leagues. I believe all 3 of them have now closed for registration, but I would advise going on the forums and posting that you are looking for a team.

Its fun, not overly intense, a few guys play in the superleague, a few have played WHL though. I never played any organized hockey aside from this league and I am ok (not great). I would think it is probably below tier 1, It only really gets intense in the playoffs, some guys wear shinpads but thats about it for equipment, you can wear hockey gloves, use any kind of stick etc.
I would suggest you come play for a team one night as a tryout and see what you think.
email: alliancefloorhockey@gmail.com and tell them you are interested in trying out for a night before committing. They should set you up with a team that needs guys. my team (the Penguins) I think can't pick up anymore players now as we have too many, but I could be wrong.

Again appreciate the info! I am very interested in signing up, but have a couple more questions. 1. We are both 18 and I'm curious on what the league age is like? Also, I'm wondering what the odds are that me and my friend can play on the same team together? Thanks

thats cool. yea the league age is sorta 18-late 20s, with a few older guys. If you are both at least 18, you probably won't feel too out of place, but most guys are probably college age or a few years past that. odds would be unlikely that you play on the same team, but if you have your heart set on being on the same team it may be possible. let the league know your situation on wanting to play together (really stress it as you are new to the league etc), but it isn't garaunteed. There might be a few teams that can take two guys, but the league doesn't like doing that as it isn't fair to the other 11 teams. at this point, the league could probably work something out for you. if you are free tonight you could come by and watch a little or see if a team needs a sub just to get a feel for it.

I've played in a variety of leagues in calgary and it seems as though super leagues is the most competitive of the ones I tried. I actually enjoy other leagues more these days, but for pure competition it is still probably the best.

Hey, so me and my friend have joined the league and played the other day; and it was awesome. I just wanted to extend a thanks for helping me out, as we are both big into the league now. Also I see that we play the Penguins on tuesday, so maybe I shouldn't thank you yet haha.

yep, it looks like there is a good chance we will be playing you guys, stats from tuesday aren't up yet so I don't know how the wings did. how did you guys do?
glad you are enjoying it, you and your friend have really torn it up with the Blackhawks, turned thier season around

I was not able to go on tuesday but I know we lost to the kings and beat the blues. Thanks man, I wasn't sure how this would pan out; but me and mike are hooked haha. You guys have been playing quite well recently too!
