Default Chrysler pulling out of Canada

TORONTO -- Sources familiar with Chrysler's plans say the automaker has already begun work behind the scenes to pull its operations out of Canada if it can't reach an agreement with the Canadian Auto Workers by the end of the month. Chrysler Canada has said it needs to cut its labour costs by approximately $20 an hour to be competitive with foreign automakers such as Toyota.

Chalk up another victory for CAW. Oh wait, thats right the worst union on the planet is behind this, I mean thanks for being greedy.

Say good-bye to Chrysler and thank you CAW

The auto union members in North America don't know how good they have it.

I was reading a story about the poor union members that were forced to take cuts or something to that effect it the story actually left me thinking, 'shoot, I should move to Ontario and get a plant job, even with the cuts,' lol.

Oh well I guess they will figure it out soon enough.

I have a real hatred for CAW, I've never been a fan of unions in general because it went from protecting employees with regards to safety at the workplace to over inflated wages and obscene damands. They are like sports agents.

I feel sorry for the other company's who provided parts and services for the Chrysler plants. Sucks for them to be caught up in all this.

Looking at it from a long term good perspective: this is good news. Screw the CAW and it's bloated opinion of itself.

Looking at it from the short term perpective of the people in jobs dependant on Chrysler, this really sucks.

Can't really blame Chrysler on this one. Pulling out is 100% effective.

Could be a negotiating tactic by Chrysler. I wonder who these "sources" are?

Figures. Buzz pulls out right at the top and leaves the mess to someone else to fix and take the blame for.

Oh.. and where did Buzz Hargrove go? The NHLPA. GREAT!

Well, I don't know of any company paying $76.00 an hour per employee could possibly stay competitive, It cost Toyota $55.00 which they claim is "break even" and they sell their product at a much higher margin.

Brampton will be a ghost town because of the greed from that union. I bet it spells the end of the Jeep YJ forever or whatever they make there nowdays.

well, at least the government won't be cutting a bailout check to them which will probably save us a massive amount of dollars.

I feel sorry for the workers, but the bottom line is that they have to take a hard look at their union, Chrysler took a hard line on this a while ago and CAW decided to play games and give worthless concessions. Now they've screwed over all of Ontario in a big way.

I would expect that the other big two are going to be making similar threats.

If anything this is good for Chrysler as they can move those jobs to Detroit and increase their demands or move those jobs to mexico for a cheaper hourly rate.

I think the Caravan is made made at another canadian plant. Windsor perhaps. I know in the late 80's and early 90's the Brampton plant built the Jeep...not sure after about 91-92 as I stopped doing busness with them but I do seem to remember something about the Intrepid going to be built there, not sure it ever was though.
An owner of one of the new R/T challengers told me it was built in Canada as well, possibly there as it's a very large plant or at least it was.
