Star ratings in the Forums

Can someone explain the star rating system we have? I noticed it when someone commented on how the "Phaneuf is Brutal" thread only has one star. Who rates them?

It's on the bar just above the OP post there, to your right. See it? Everyone can vote.

EDIT: Kinda funny I know that, I have literally never used it. I don't think many people do. That's why you often see 5 stars, 1 star or no stars (no voting)

Haha that was me, he bumped it up to five, I took it down a notch with a 'terrible' rating, lol.

Well isn't that something, over 750 posts and i didn't know there was a star rating at the top of each thread. I guess it is true that you learn something new every day. Thanks.
