Sometimes I hear people ask what happened to Brent Dodginhorse, he's probably one of the most popular players in Hitmen history. Anyway, he's just joined the Horse Lake Thunder with Fleury. I think he's got 4 points in 5 games. I had no idea he was up here until I saw him play last night.
The team is stacked and should make a serious run at the Allan Cup.
Just an update.

Forgive my ingnorance here, but is Horse Lake relatively close to Grande Prairie? I heard that they have a nice new 2000 seat arena up there (my source is the sports cast one day on a local Red Deer radio station). They're playing Stoney Plain for Allan Cup playdowns right now aren't they, and last I heard that series is tied at 1-1. So depending on the result of the most recent game it would be like 2-1 now. I also think Stoney Plain was the first team to beat Horse Lake this year too.

I think Horse Lake is pretty much on the border with BC, no? Used to be called Mott Lake.

The Horse Lake First Nation is based near Hythe, so yes, they wont be far from Grande Prairie. I would guess they play out of the arena in Hythe, which is about 50KM northwest of Grande Prairie.
The 2000-seat arena you are thinking of is probably the Crystal Centre in Grande Prairie. I doubt Horse Lake plays out of there.

Ya. Horse Lake is about 40 minutes NW of GP. Pretty much in Hythe (Weibo land).
They are in Allan Cup qualifing...it's weird though. It happens to fall during the regualr season. So they are in the middle of this best of 5 with Stoney Plain but they are also still playing reg. season games in between. So the series will continue next weekend, during that time the Thiunder will play 2 more regular season games. It's weird. You are right though Stoney Plain was the first team to beat them all year, and that series is still tied 1-1.

They ahve their own arena...and it's pretty damn nice...considering some of the other rinks in the league. It only cost us 8million, not bad.

Deelow, Have you always lived up that way?, and the other question I have is what is the Salary like for these players?? I would imagine they still have to work other jobs right?

No, I've only been in Northern Alberta for..ah 3 months now I guess...so this whole Fleury thing is a nice distraction for me. I'm not sure about the Salary question. Fleury says he's playing for free. I'm almopst positive that's BS. I heard a figure of $10,000 upfront and $1,000 for every game he plays. Plus the band is paying for his travel and hotel back and forth to Calgary. No one else can be making that much except maybe Odjick. I know he's living in Vancouver and flying in for games. I imagine most players have to have some other kind of income coming in. One thing is for sure, this hockey team is not a money making operation. Someone told me their budget for the year was $1M which is far and beyond any other team in the league. It takes a lot of $5 tickets to make up a million bucks.

If the team is being funded by a First Nations group, than there could certainly be a few dollars involved. When I was playing Fastball in Prince George 4 years ago the Lhiedi River Kings signed a guy to pitch for them for the season because they wanted to take a serious run at the Candadian Mens Sr.A title along with the First Nations National title. The rumors on the diamond were that he was given $30,000 in cash. No one doubted it either as the first thing he did was go out and buy a brand new Firebird. I imagine that they gave a guy like Fleury a few bucks and other perks to suit up for them.
