Help Mr and Mrs Cheese make a decision!
Well folks about this time of the year "the Cheese's" start wondering what in the heck we will do and where in the heck we are going to go on holidays. We are thinking of a few weeks somewhere hot this summer, we LOVE the heat, beaches, tropical etc etc. This is a "regenerating vacation" as opposed to a hectic touring trip.
Have been to Cuba multiple times, Dominican, Mexico, Hawaii, Panama etc etc., wont go back to the DR or Mexico at this time.
Was looking at Belize, it looked very beautiful, but not sure of political system, places to stay there etc etc as Im just beginning to dig around.
Where would you send the Cheese's? Provide links, pics, etc to places your recommending etc etc.

Going by the thread title, I thought this was going to be about the surgery you've been contemplating.
I think a vacation to regenerate is a great idea. It will give you time to understand that you were born a man and should stay that way.

Turks and Caicos is very nice, great beaches. Great snorkeling and diving from what I understand.
And there's absolutely nothing else on the island that we stayed at (Sandals resort) so no worries about tours.. nothing to tour to!

Ever been to the Cayman Islands Cheese? It was a very very modern yet tropical place. I was there for a day while on a cruise a few years back. I would recommend it.

Best beaches I've ever been to were on margarita island (it's not just a clever name):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isla_Margarita
Absolutely gorgeous. The place is a little underdeveloped in general, so if you are used to swank this might not be the place. However, I'm sure if you are willing to spend more than I had at the time, you can find a five star place. That being said, I didn't spend much time in the hotels becaues the beaches were amazing.
This place supposedly only gets a few days of rain a year as well.
Assuming Chavez hasn't destroyed this place yet, I would recommend it.

How old (roughly) are you guys and what kind of amenities are you looking for? If you want absolutely-nothing-going-on pure gorgeousness of beach and tropical jungle amazing, the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica is hard to beat.
Specifically the very small town of Montezuma, which has some amenities and was founded by ex-pats and the virtually non-existent towns of Mal Pais and Santa Theresa which have surfers, and a laundromat/internet cafe run by two israeli guys who make amazing food.

Why not a cruise? I was on one this year - you see lots of different islands, the food is terrific, the service is first class. It's very relaxing - I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to our next cruise.

A resort at the Dead Sea (Jordan). Everyone should go there once in a lifetime to experience it's healing and buoyant waters. Great mix of adventure and relaxation.
But it's close enough you can mix it up with a trip to Petra, one of the world's true wonders...
In Jordan, we stayed at the Movenpick which is plenty luxurious.

I was there last March, and can answer questions if you'd like.

I have been to Belize. We stayed on Ambergris Caye, at the Banyan Bay resort. It is a resort of condos, right on the beach. It is a bit south of San Pedro, and we walked to town daily. Outside of a few golf carts and taxis, bikes or walking is the main method of transportation. I don't believe you can rent a car there. There has been a lot of development now north of San Pedro. Some places are only accessible to San Pedro via boat ride. And there are some nudist camps up that way too ))

All of the cayes of Belize are very close to the reef, so there is great snorkelling on the inside and diving on the outside. You can walk out a long long way from the beach and still only be in water up to your waist.
Because of the proximity to the reef, there is some turtle grass and seaweed that is in the water. Unless there is a big wind or storm, it does not affect water activity and most of the resorts clean up the beaches anyhow.
If you do go to Belize, you must go to Hol Chan water preserve, it is a short boat ride. And then you can snorkel and swim with huge manta rays, nurse sharks and all kinds of tropical fish.

I would not stay on mainland Belize, particularily in Belize city or north of there, there is drug trade activity. On the other hand, down south by Placentia, all kinds of resorts, some with the expensive mud pack spas, others with canoe rides into the rain forest to look for black panthers etc. But down by Placentia, lots more sandflies come out at night, so you can get bitten pretty badly.
Oh, and you will see a lot of dogs in San Pedro. Depending on when they last dealt with the issue, you will either see some dogs in good health or lots of dogs in bad health. Very few vets and most locals don't neuter their animals, so leave the rest up to your imagination. The way they used to deal with it, not sure about now, is every five years, they did a mass poisoning (( So DESS, this might not be the ideal vacation place for you!!!

I'm totally opposite of you when it comes to vacations, I don't do tropical.
However, everyone I have ever talked to who has been to Belize or Costa Rica has absolutely loved it. I think you're on the right track.

If you change your mind about Mexico, we have rented private villas, once in Puerto Morelos, the other down south by Tulum, Tankah shores.
Both places are very very relaxing, especially down south by Tankah. If you want info on the houses we have rented, pm me. I have used http://www.vrbo.com/ a lot and have nothing but good to say about any places I have rented from people using that site.

I think you meant you stayed on Ambergris Caye, in the little town of San Pedro?
