New U2 Single: Get on Your Boots
Not sure if there are a lot of U2 fans on here but has anyone heard the new single yet? http://goyb.u2.com/ What do you think of it?

Thanks for the link, they played it on the radio here this morning, but I am at work already, so I could not really listen well, have to keep the radio pretty low.
Looking forward to it.

I'm unimpressed, but I've never been a huge U2 fan.

I'm a U2 fan but this seems just blah, then again I think most of the singles the band releases are basically throwaways and the meatier tracks are in the album.

I agree, I have never understood the mass appeal. Oh well, to each their own. Personally, I don't hate U2 or really like them. They have a couple great songs, a few good ones, a lot of medicore and a lot of awful songs.

Sunday Bllody Sunday, New Year's Day, I Will Follow, One, Even Better than the Real Thing, Still haven't Found what I'm looking for, Mysterious Ways, Streets Have No Name, With or WIthout you.....the list goes on
Those are just throwaway songs?? Come on.

There are a lot of mixed reviews on the new album so it will be interesteing to see how the rest of it is. U2 says that this was the album they were trying to release with Zooropa and Pop (which are two of my least favorite albums). So far I am not too impressed with this first single but am sure it will grow on me.

I love a lot of those songs, Sunday Bloody Sunday being my favorite U2 song, but this new one just doesn't have it.

100 percent agree, I was only commenting on his notion that U2 singles are throwaway songs.

I really used to like U2, but their last 3-4 albums have been wishy washy, soft rock, uninspired pop crap.
I didn't mind Discotheque cause at least they were trying something different, but everything since then has been especially bad.
My fave album of theirs is War with Sunday Bloody Sunday and New Years Day.

It was okay but not anything to write home about - definitely doesn't have the "soul" of some of their earlier work.

I've been thinking of joining the U2 fan club on their website, seems like it has some great features. Plus I'm going to be pretty desperate for tickets on their next tour as I've never seen them live.

All that you can't leave behind is a great album. People act like nothing U2 has done recently is any good, but that album is fantastic.
This new track is pretty strange. Not sure if i like it, but I like the fact that its nothing like I expected. I'll have to give it a few more listens and maybe it'll sink in.

Thanks for the link.
Decent pop tune. Nothing to write home about, though.

Old U2 still sounds great to me! I don't seem to get tired of October, War, Boy, The Unforgetable Fire etc. Timeless!
This new song doesn't really sound original and parts of it sound like Thom Yorke and other parts like Layne Staley. Nothing really new about it. Not what I was expecting!

Some great songs on that album and some really great songs on How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb as well. I'm not ashamed to say I tend to like new U2 material, even if it is not very chic to like such a massively-popular and ubiquitous band.

^^^ It's not that I dislike the new stuff cause their mega-popular. I just don't find that the new songs have the same musical edge or as good poetry in them.
Not saying anyone is wrong in the liking the new stuff, just my personal opinion.
