Habs bring in coveted prospect

The Montreal Canadiens are pleased to announce the acquisition of Tyler Myers from the Nashville Predators. The Habs have sent UFA Brad Stuart to Nashville. The trade breaks down as follows:

Brad Stuart was an upcoming UFA and we had very little use for him sitting at the bottom of the Gretzky Conference. This saves us cap space for next year, and it also adds to our stable of prospects.

Myers was a guy we inquired about after the WJC as myself, along with many others were impressed with his play. He has improved offensively this year in Kelowna and with the Sabres weak d-core has the opportunity to play significant minutes down the road.

As some of you know, I am a big fan of Myers, so I like this deal for the Habs. Habs have a great group of prospects on their AHL and ECHL team now and are looking pretty good for the future. Preds get a guy who will help out right away and definatly stregthens their D core.

I am still on the fence about this deal. Fact is though our blue line was in need of some help and this gives us a big boost back there. (We are almost respectable there now!).

I do think that Myers is a great looking prospect, and he should pan out fine...so the question for us was do we take the opportunity to strengthen for the playoff run without losing significant roster players today, or wait for the development of guys like Myers? Tough call...but we will see how this works out!
