Default Local Moving Companies

Has anyone used any local moving companies? Any good stories or horror stories? We have a little 3 bedroom home with your usual stuff (heaviest item will be a treadmill) we are moving from Huntington over to Auburn Bay do you know roughly how much it should cost (estimate) or we should anticipate to pay? Thanks in advance to everyone for feedback.

Ask for Jim, they've always been really careful with our stuff and do a great job of transporting and protecting valuables. I forget what his rates are, but they charge by the hour.

St. George Moving and Storage does a good job. It's not cheap, but it'll get done right.

Williams or St George...same owners, your best bet. A 3 bedrm home, they'll likely send out 3 guys and truck for maybe around $120.00 @ hr. Might be able to get it done cheaper this time of year. If it's an avg 3bedrm with good access at both ends and well packed up in good boxes, they'll get it done in 8 hrs or less for sure. If you do go with either one of these outfits, make sure you ask for a contracted crew as opposed to hourly guys. The contracted guys have to pay a % of any damage incurred, plus they're just better guys.

One thing we did when we moved was to pack and move all the little things that are easy to move on our own. Anything that could fit into my car went with me. then we had the movers only move the big things that wouldn't fit in our cars.

We did this the evening before we moved and were able to get all the big pieces like couches, beds, kitchen tables into the main exit room so the movers could get in and out a lot faster. Even with this the guys still took about 4 hours total to do the move (1.5 to load, 1.5 to unload and the assumed 1 hour for driving time that most places charge).

This was a 2 bedroom mainfloor as well. We figured if we had them move everything it probably would've taken an extra 1.5h to load and another 1.5h to unload for the movers. That's quite a bit at about a 100 bucks an hour.

DO NOT, under any circumstances, use Two Small Men With Big Hearts. That's all.
