Default Losing weight with Nintendo DS

Has anyone else used "My weight loss coach" for the Nintendo DS. I'm not much for video games, but I wanted to lose some weight, and I'm all for gimmiky, quick fix type solutions, so I picked up a NIntendo DS and this game.

It comes with a pedometer, and has a bunch of activities and goals to acheive. It's actually pretty cool. The only problem? It asks you a bunch of questions at the beggining to formulate the best program for you, including height, weight, gender etc. I entered my height and weight, and it concluded that based on my BMI (body mass average or some thing) I need to GAIN weight. So after buying a weight loss program to get back in shape, my first goal is to gain 3lbs by Saturday.

Anyone else use this game/program and had the same problem? Or has anyone used it and had success?

I played Wii Fit on the woman's Wii and it told me I'm wayyy overweight. To the tune of 30lbs. Now, I could probably stand to lose maybe 5lbs off the beer gut, but I'm not overweight. 6'2", 205... Pretty average. So, what I'm saying is that Nintendo doesn't know sh1t.

BMI is not a good indicator at all.

Well, I went for my first run with the pedometer. My goal was 500 steps, I think I took about 3 or 4 thousand, but it only counted 82 steps. So now I'm sitting here shaking the thing to get it to 500 steps so I can move on to the next activity. This is stupid, what a gimmiky piece of junk.

Oh for F's sakes, the stupid animated coach guy said he's having trouble reading the pedometer, and said to turn off the DS and plug it in again, then the pedometer shut off and lost the 500 steps. Now I have to shake the damn thing to 500 steps again. What a piece!

maybe you're using it wrong or it wasn't calibrated in the first place? I would think these are thorougly tested unless it's one of those no-name offbrand crap software put out en masse like has been happening with Wii lately.

Give up excessive beer drinking? Let's not rush to extremes here.

I'm the same height as you are and if I got down to 175 I'd be at 8% body fat.

Nintendo's used to skinny Japanese guys.

BMI is a terrible indicator. We were looking at this at work a couple weeks back. According to the BMI I'm about 70 lbs overweight. So I'm extremely obese. I'm not even close to obese. I could probably stand to drop about 10lbs.. If I were to drop 70 lbs I would look absolutely horrible. Most people actually don't believe that I weigh what I do, most guess about 20-30 lbs less.

It doesn't take into account things like muscle mass, or body type, its just in general. People that are the same height are going to totally different builds, and body types, and will look better at different weights.

Allegedly my ideal weight is 185 lbs. If I got down to that much weight I would be pretty sick and would mostly skin and bones. You can't tell me a guy with big frame like I have should only be 185 lbs. I do have too much body fat but at 235 lbs. I'm probably 20-25 lbs off of where I should be.

Don't follow BMI and crap like that, especially from a video game.

Sounds like it worked, your wallet is probably much lighter after purchasing a Nintendo DS.

The line at the end of that video gave me a good laugh...

"The preceding video was a joke. If you think that drinking beer will make you thin, then you are an idiot."
