Sirius XM bankrupt?

Will the gov't bail them out too!?
Another company that jerked me around and I'm happy to see struggling. I bought Sirius to listen to NBA games, and then they merge and I lose my NBA listening "rights."
Still, sucks.

The big losers will be the people who they owe money to. The company will restructure with less debt and go forward from there. Since they are no longer competing with each other, operating costs will go way down while they get the combined subscriber base.
I really don't think satellite radio will cease to exist until internet radio can be easily picked up car stereos.

People listen to basketball games??
I sorta figured these companies were doomed a while back. So much in operating costs and who really wants to pay for radio?

I wonder what all the people that predicted the death of terrestrial radio are saying now?

So what does this mean to subscribers? I have 2+ years left. I should just cancel now and get my money back while I still can.

This sucks...I was really looking forward to the built-in satellite radio in the vehicle I'm buying this spring.

everyone up here in this area of northern AB pays for radio. it's either that or listen to the native trading station, or 'tradio', and unfortunately I don't really need any 3-legged poker tables or lawn chairs without mesh (a bit of an exaggeration, but it is pretty funny what they try to make money on)
but siriusly ( ) I own 3 sirius radios, and pretty much everyone up here has a sirius radio in their vehicle, as like i said there is nothing else. At least I have a good selection of cd's to fall back on if they go under, but most people I know here rely heavily on their sirius.

I've had XM in both our cars for 3 years now and could not live without it. It's like saying, "Who really wants to pay for cable/sat TV?"
Sure, I could get free radio full of commercials and crappy overplayed songs complete with ######bag djs and even ######yer morning shows - no thanks!
The amount and variety of music and talk radio on Satellite is well worth the $240 a year. I've wasted way more than that on crappier things.

I have XM too. I just hate the repetitive crap on the comedy stations. I dont mind the music and I enjoy the sports. I guess it depends how much time you spend in your vehicle. My biggest gripe is how sh1tty the signal is driving through the mountains to BC. Its where I listen to it most and 3/4 the time its not working.

I've had it for over 3 years as well. I would be very depressed if I couldn't get satellite radio in any form. I remember driving a loaner one day and that was the first time I listened to a commercial radio station in 3 years. I forgot that they were like 80% commercials/annoying djs.
EDIT: after reading that article, it sounds like they aren't in any danger of going out of business.

Agreed - I do hate the coverage in the mountains.
I also listen online to XM streaming at work - so I get a return there as well when I'm not in my truck.

If its bankruptcy protection than it should be OK. They just need to restructure their debts and eventually come out of this. Plus, I heard on Stern this morning that they guy from Ecostar was trying to buy the company?

Sirius satellites are higher in the sky then XM satellites making them less likely to be blocked.

So is the programming now the same whether you have a Sirius or XM unit?

This will explain it for you:
Notice how the XM satellites are stationary but the 3 Sirius birds are always on the move. If you are driving through the mountains when one of the 3 Sirius satellites is up north, then you will get a signal.
