Help picking apartment size BBQ
Hello CP
I'm looking for a BBQ for the apartment. Because I don't have a lot of room on my balcony (4feet x 12 feet), I don't want a really big BBQ. Just something fueled by propane and enough for 2-4 people.
I saw this one at Sears
Kenmore
BP26040
40,000 BTU
12,000 BTU side burner
$129.99
http://www.sears.ca/gp/product/B0021...deid=396557011
I haven't found many helpful reviews, so I was wondering what CP thought about it. Otherwise, if anyone has suggestions of a good apartment sized BBQ I should look at
Thanks

Tiger would probably answer this better since his dad is a retired firefighter, but I believe carrying a propane tank indoors is illegal. I think he mentioned that to me once.

To clarify, the BBQ will be outdoors on the balcony. It's just a small balcony, so I don't want to get one of those giant stainless steel super BBQs

When I lived in a high rise the rule was you couldn't take the propane tank on the elevator, but you could use the stairs. When I was on the 4th floor it was no biggie. But when I moved to the 12th floor I would walk up to 2, then get on the elevator.
Be careful with small or inexpensive BBQs. The worst thing with a BBQ is having metal that is too thin and loses heat. Meat cooks so much better at a medium heat and that heat staying inside as opposed to leaving it on high.
That, and be careful if your balcony has vinyl siding. It reall doesn't take much for that stuff to warp.

Even though your BBQ is outside, you will need to carry your tanks in through your building to get it to your balcony which is illegal.
If other people have them then you're probably okay but you will have problems if you need to make an insurance claim if something ever happened or you might get a knock on the door from the FD or your condo board.

I have one of a similar size on a similar balcony but without that side burner. You can probably do without it and then maybe take the arms off one side, that's what I did.

Interesting, I didn't know about that
I'm on the top floor of a 3 story apartment (6 units in total) so there isn't any elevators
As far as I know, the former manager had one, and he was on the top floor as well. I'll check with the current manager.
Canadian Tire had a similar small one, but since it was made in China and a unknown brand, I avoided it. Figure Kenmore and made in Canada would make it a safer bet

No question, get a Weber Q
Best grill I've ever owned. Weber rules at grills. Being portable is nice too, and it uses the smaller propane tanks, like you'd see on an acetone torch, so "illegal" issues are kinda irrelavent, as you can just bring the tanks in with the groceries. Extremely powerful, if I use someone else's grill it always feels underpowered. I can't say enough, best small grill ever.
The stand is separate, and it rules for tailgating

Interesting, I'll check it out
I always worried those portable ones aren't powerful enough. On the other hand, I am kind of tempted to get a sideburner one so I can do Chinese deep frying without stinking up the house with that oil smell

I have to agree. I have one of these for car camping. It is awesome. It works better than my big broil king at home. Only issue is the size. it takes a while to feed the family.

Yup, a third vote for the Weber Q. Perfect for balconies or small patios, road-trips, tailgating, etc. Not cheap, but it kicks ass over any other small grill, and even over most regular-sized grills in its price range.

Out of curiousity, what would the price range for the Weber Q plus stand be?

In the states it's about 150-200 bucks for the lot of it.

At Costco it was something like $220 to $250. I can't remember the exact price. But if you don't like it, you can always take it back at Costco.

Look at Barbecuesgalore.ca you can compare tons of good barbecues there.
I bought a Broil King portable from them and it works great. It would work for what your looking for. Check it out.
