Aww... I have to admit I loved the books. The movie was pretty bad though, I agree.
On second thought, maybe I should move this comment to the confession thread.

All my junior high students are right into these books. There is a waiting list at the library to sign them out.

The saddest thing is the whole series is (and has been admitted to by the author) a complete projection of the authors secret desires.
Not only is it one-dimensional pap, it also promotes mysoginy, subordination to men, and on more of a stretch, statuatory rape (the vampire in question is 100+ years old, the girl is 16/17).
Oh and it has a bazillion forced allusions to hardcore Christianity, and the book is a thinly-veiled rail against unwed sex.
For serious. Google any of these claims, they are so true it's sad.

Apparently she's mormon, but who cares if it glorifies abstinence? I've never heard of anything negative coming out of a little chastity. Unless you count blue balls.

Yes but the whole message boils down to "Girls, if you save it, no matter how fat, dumb, boring, self-centred, or egotistical you are, as long as you give yourself to a man completely and become his property, you'll do fine."

She's 18 when they have sex. But I will agree to a lot of the things you say. The main character is a freaking moron, and she annoys the hell out of me. I have other issues with the books. But I thought we were talking about the movie. Rob is a dream boat, the movie is suck.

I read the first 3 books before they were EVERYWHERE... no desire to read the 4th though... and yes, I saw the movie. I liked it a lot more than the books, but I also loved looking at Rob Pattinson and pretty much the rest of the male cast.
But I'm also getting annoyed by how badly some people are completely obsessed with Twilight. I have several friends like such. Ugh.

Didn't get dragged to the movie (thank god), but my girlfriend (28 if you're keeping score) pretty much went 2 weeks without talking she was so caught up by the books.

I got dragged to this movie the second weekend it came out. Honest to God, I was in a line full of mostly teen girls. Besides me, I saw ONE other dude, and he was their with his 2 daughters.
The line in the movie "I'm not afraid of you, I'm just afraid of losing you" literally made me roll my eyes and throw up a little in my mouth. But my gf, and all the girls around me lapped that up!

Yup I was forced to go to that movie by the girl I was dating at the time. Needless to say, we're not seeing each other any more.
After that movie I felt an overwhelming urg to punch a puppy.

Can you blame him? With his magic number hes probably tired of breaking hips during every hookup and having to fetch her walker.

About 2 years ago, I read the books and was completely enchanted. Then the fandom spread and it just felt like everything was ruined, especially after the movie and fourth book- both of which make me vomit a little in my mouth. The books are written very poorly and I can't stand everytime the author is compared to JK Rowling or Stephen King. I am so ashamed I actually bought into this nonsense at one point.
The movie was totally and completely unbearable. A friend dragged me to the theatre and I literally walked out about 35 mins in- there was just so much wrong with it. Robert Pattinson was not enough to keep me there. It's pathetic that so many girls have invested themselves in this, forming unrealistic dreams based on a fictional, non-existant being that sparkles.
