I call fake.

Without the reflective sides of a proper microwave there is no way the waves are concentrated to enough to generate the amount of energy needed in such a large open space.

So fake.

If a cell phone could heat the water in a kernel of popcorn enough to pop it, it would heat the water in your finger the same amount.

A microwave is usually rated at 1000W or so.. your cell phone probably doesn't even put out half a watt constantly.

Microwaves work because the frequency is tuned to excite water molecules.. Cell phones don't work on the same frequency.

Considering the popcorn pops faster with those phones than with a real full powered microwave, I am surprised anyone at all believed that it might be possible.

A buddy of mine had a gas station attendant lose it on him for "putting the whole gas station at risk" by using his cell phone in the parking lot. Almost made me buy a mythbusters dvd just to throw at his head.
