Default IKEA Sultan spring mattress - what do you think

Specifically the Hasselback/Jonaker

I have had the same bed since University, and lets just say its time for a change.

IKEA hs this sale where you get 20% back in gift cards when you purchase this mattress and box spring.

Just wondering if anyone has one and what their impressions are.

$649 with 129.80 back in gift cards seems like a great deal for a queen size bed compared to a few other places I have looked like Sleep Country and The Brick.

I would drive down there and check it myself, but is along way from where I live and IKEA stores in general, well they are a smidge difficult to find things.

Just wondering if its worth a morning Satruday trip.

Thanks.

Yes, but I would also have to drive there.

Its been almost a month since I last drove. My car might dislike getting woken up from the slumber of a nice warm parkade.

I am aware of the breakfast deal though, thanks.

A good mattress is essential to a good night's rest and really filters down to everything else you do in your life... the only time I've ever slept on an Ikea matress was on a girlfriend's back in university and I remember it not being the greatest... maybe they've gotten better since, but if not, I'd recommend investing in something solid from Sleep Country...

You know, if you'd taken her out from under the mattress, you probably would have found it less lumpy and uncomfortable.

Sleep Country has a big sale on now - got a $1500 queen set for $900, and free delivery.

The other thing to keep in mind with mattresses is they have a huge markup. if you go into Sleep Country or the Brick on a Tuesday evening and find a hungry salesperson you should have no problem getting 30-50% off.

Be sure to bring in a notebook, write down stuff about the bed, and always ask for "your best price on this, as I'll be shopping around." A good sales person will offer you something on the spot to get you to commit.

Hmm, free shipping... I would definately have to pay IKEA to ship it as my quasi sports car can barely transport myself and 4 passengers.

Hmm, and there is one by the Costco in the NE. Thanks.

Yeah I'd skip buying anything you plan on hanging on to long term from IKEA

Thanks for posting this . I've been thinking about this mattress for a few weeks as I'm pretty settled on one of the beds there.

I have been thinking about upguaging my bed for a while. Now that I am not dating I rarely go to Ikea as its a good distance from downtown and I bought a place close to downtown so I wouldnt have to drive alot.

But when you see a $700 Queen size mattress 20% off, you take a second look (especially when its called the SULTAN )and I figured I would check the CP braintrust in case anyone has this and what their impressions migt be.

I do agree that the bed is one of the most important purchases, and that a somber second thought on buying anything from ikea that you want to last for more than a few years is sketchy at best.

Do your research too. Lots of expensive mattresses don't have the best reviews out there. Lots of other slightly cheaper ones with much better value... last thing you want is investing close to a $1000 on a mattress and having to replace it in less than a year.

No kidding, if you want anything of quality, I'd steer clear of the great Swedish Satan.

Plenty of better places to get mattresses.

As someone who has never "researched" a mattress before -- what are the kinds of things to look for? Are all these little bells and whistles worth the extra money? I've been on an ikea mattress for awhile but if there are better options out there -- that actually have a tangible difference -- I would be interested (i.e. having independent pocket coil spring thingy's won't matter if I can't "feel" much of a difference, no?).

P.S. I've slept in hotels like the Westin in their "Heavenly Bed" and quite frankly have slept fine in either instance...

The thing is I really like that mattress and found it more to my liking than other more expensive ones.Hmmm maybe I should just hide put until closing and spend the night on it.....haha. I like the white metal bed that begins with an"L" . Hmm maybe we should ask King Henrik for his opinion!

I'm not a mattress expert, but I did do enough research prior to buying mine (as I do with any big purchase I make). Just look on the internets for mattress reviews and you'll actually find a pretty good amount of info regarding which ones have been well reviewed or ones that provide the best value for your dollar.

What I found from researching was that an uncomfortable mattress may not wake you completely up from your sleep, but can bother you enough through the night (leading to repositioning, etc.) that you don't end up getting a full 7 hours or whatever it is you sleep.

Max Koch is popular for his impressions, in particular, his Tony Soprano impression, but he has a hilarious video of him trying to assemble an IKEA dresser LOL.

One of the best purchases i ever made was for a king sized heavenly bed from the Westin. Once a year they have a friends and family sale and i got my king size for $700, new with a box spring and pillow top. I think regular price is $1400 but even that is totally worth it.

The bad thing now is that i can't sleep properly in another bed or on the couch anymore.

Oh and i went from the top of the line sultan mattress to that. It's not even comparable.

A friend and I had to assemble one of these for my sister when she moved into her condo...needless to say we went out and got some pizza and beer and then threw down to assemble this monster.

3 hours and 2 cases of beer later we threw the thing over a 4th storey balcony.
