Default Internet Issues

Hey, so my internet went out on Sunday, I got Shaw to give me a new modem, but it only worked for a few seconds. It does not work on my router or being plugged right into a PC. Ideas? Bad cables?

Plug your computer directly into the modem.
Reboot your computer
Post the START > RUN > cmd [ENTER] > ipconfig [ENTER] message.
Also post what the lights on your modem are doing (as well as the modem type your have)

The lights are on like normal, but nothing. I'll try the other stuff when I get home.

Shaw was having issues this morning. Sounds like all downtown was down. Not sure if they are related by I know Shaw was having problems in some areas of the city.

Call Shaw, it takes awhile to wait but they have the call you back feature so you don't have to stay on the line.

Why are you asking us? We can't really help you but the shaw techs can ping your modem from their end if you call them and they can tell you what is really wrong.

Shaw was up and down for me all weekend. Sounds like the same type of thing I was experiencing. Lights were on but nothing was connecting.

No problems here in High River.

I'd phone Shaw and talk with one of thier techs. They've helped me with problems in the past.

If you are still having problems try winsock sp fix. I warn you however it is third party software, but sometimes it does the trick.

Ok, it's working but what's weird is when I plug a computer into the router, the internet stops, unplug it and it works.

I had something similar. They replaced all the cabling in my house but it didn't do a thing. Then the next tech came to my house and found one cable that wasn't replaced. He replaced that, and changed the connectors at the box down the street and the problem was fixed. We're not entirely sure which one of those fixed the problem.

A tech will likely come out with a new modem if you request a service call. He'll be able to tell right away if it is the modem. If the new modem acts the same way prepare for a baffled tech or two to come to your house to try to solve the problem.

Probably signal level out of wack, or router buggered.

Also, if you are in a house and you have used cheap splitters, that can also be an issue.
