Default Very Annoying PC problem

I'v searched all over google but maybe im not describing this properly.

In Firefox or IE, every 60 seconds or so, my cursor will stop when I'm typing for a good full second, then resume without remembering what I typed while it paused, resulting in incomplete words.

It also "blinks" when I'm in a menu (ie. Bookmarks or the Start menu) and I have to go back to it again. It's also fun when I type in the google add-on bar, it pauses, then hilights what I typed only to erase it and replace the text with what I typed after the pause. (did that make sense?)

When this blink happens, the title bar fades in color a bit, then returns to normal.

Did you check for malware? Some sort of keystroke logger?

Download Spybot S&D (it's free) and run that in "safe mode", as mentioned above you may have a key logger on your PC. Running this in safe mode means that less system processes will be running allowing Spybot greater access to search for anything.

You could also run CCleaner, which usually picks up anything that spybot may have miseed.

Disconnect from the net (or run in non network safe mode) while you're doing all this too.

n00b question: how do I get it to start up in safe mode if I wanted to do this? (vista)
