Hard drive question

So I bought an external hard drive the other day since my computer is just about full (already!) Anyways, I put all my music and movies and stuff on there, and now I'm wondering...If I delete all my music off my internal hard drive, will iTunes be able to find where it all is by itself? Or will I have to find 8000+ songs for it? Also, is there a way that I can just download music to the external drive and have iTunes add it automatically like it already does?

Yes, just go to preferences --> advanced and change the location of your library to you external. Then go to File --> Library --> consolidate Library and itunes should relink to all of your content. Anything you load into itunes at this point will copy to your external.

You may not need to do the consolidating thing as you've already moved the content. Itunes may only need to be told where your media is.
