Default The Rock played for the Stamps??!!

What? I was browsing some random things and came across a site that said that the Rock's (Dwayne Johnson) dad was Nova Scotian and that Dwayne played for a few months for the Calgary Stampeders before being cut and taking up his wrestling career.

When was this? I find that totally hilarious.

Yeah, back in the Flutie heyday. I think I read somewhere that Doug looked down his nose at "professional" wrestling, which irked Johnson.

And A-Rod played for the Cannons. I too find little things like this amusing. It's sort of cool to know that current big name people, were once small named people playing for pro sports teams in this province.

Yeah, was only practice squad.. never got a shot here I dont believe

From Wiki

Johnson continued his football career in 1995, joining the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League after being passed over by the NFL, but he was cut two months into the season.[4]

So, good thing he didn't make it... he made WWWAAAAYYYY more wrestling and movies then he ever wouldve in the CFL..

Brian Pillman also was a Stampeder in 1986. Sounds like when he couldn't make the roster, he turned to the Harts, and Stampede Wrestling.

If you read The Rock's autobiography, he mentions that Doug Flutie was not really friendly towards him due to his wrestling background

Dwayne mane $175 a week while on the practise roster. He got free tickets to home games and would scalp every single ticket for cash to support himself. The mattress he used to sleep on was found in the alley.

He got sick of it, phoned his girlfriend and told her he was going into the 'rasslin business.

Then he became the most electricfying man in sports entertainment!

Ya I remember learnin about this back when I was into WWF in the 90's, when I was watchin an A&E Biography about him. Apparently he messed up his knee in camp and it really hampered him. It's interesting when you watch that biography, as it sounds that around this time was the lowlight of his entire life. Not because he was trying out for the CFL or anything, but I guess he was just miserable at this time and living on a mattress in some dive with a few other guys.

EDIT: I just read your post GQ, ya that reminded me of another story about him regarding this time. I guess he was watchin WWF one day in the locker room and Doug Flutie walked in and ripped on him for watchin it. The Rock said his family was in the business and I guess Flutie just scoffed. My all-time favourite Stampeder, but I've heard a few people who knew him say he was a jerk. I think Drew Brees had similar comments about him.

In 1995, he would have made more than $175/wk on the practice roster. Just being picky..

I remember an interview with The Rock on The Tonight Show once, when Leno asked him about playing in the CFL and he said the guys on the practice roster were so poor, they would go to Luciano's at the Stadium shopping centre and fill up on the free bread and bruchetta and would take their pasta home to eat for the next two days. I always remember that story.

I always thought Barak Obama sounded like the Rock when he speaks and he would've cleaned up on the white trash* vote if he ever had a speech that included "Can you smell what Barak is cookin'?"

*This is not to say that only white trash people watch wrestling.

He'd then become the People's President

I'm a fan of another unnamed CFL team and knew that the Rock was with the Stamps. Didn't know how much he played or if even got off the practice roster, but he was with the team.

And now he makes more salary per movie than an entire CFL roster.

Examples. The Scorpion King, $5.5 million. Walking Tall, $15.5 million.
The Rundown, $12.5 million. And many more.

From his wikipedia page.
