Bill Simmons needs to be the next commissioner of the NBA!
He's been arguing for this event to be added for the past 4 years and finally he gets his wish. I'm looking most forward to this and to see what Dwight Howard has in store for the dunk contest. Off topic - If he doesn't win again there are serious problems. There is no other flashy dunker in the contest!
I used to play this game and enjoyed it. It would be interesting to see this event. I may have to watch the NBA All Star event this time. I can see Nowitzki shooting from the middle of the court and makes it, then the other players tried it as well and missed. That's 'H'!!
No dunking allowed in HORSE? Big limit on what you can expect to see there. Players will have to get very creative to make this a success.
I disagree. If someone just does a normal, say, windmill dunk and someone duplicates it, that's pretty dull. But if someone makes a shot from 80ft away off the shotclock and in, then that's exciting.

I'm not the biggest fan of the NBA game.. but man their skills competitions are geat. Between this and the Dunk Contest....oh man, this will be good times.
I am not a a basketball fan. But I love watching the dunk competition to see how creative the players get! They really do have fun with it which makes it awesome!
Anyone remember this gem?
I expect the horse competition to be really good as well. Especially if players can use props and stuff! I think with each year that event will get better!

As somebody who spent 1000's of hours playing this as a kid, I think it is a terrible idea. Maybe it will be interesting in person, but I think it will be terrible on tv. We used to play it to kill time, is this what the broadcaster wants? To kill time?

Yes, but are you an NBA caliber basketball player? When they unleash their skills, it will likely be interesting because most people don't have basketball skills like that.

What skills are you talking about? This isn't the slam dunk contest. Anybody could compete in HORSE. A Joe Blow beat Labron in PIG or HORSE easily last year. See video here. http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...t=Lebron+james

Maybe, a lot of that stuff is just a case of practice. A lot of Gym Rats can make trick shots as well. Having a great shot does not take professional grade athletic ability. Taking a shot against professional basketball players does take tremendous skill and ability. In HORSE you are not being defended against, if you can line up and take an aimed shot it is more about concentration if you know how to shoot. For example a left handed (or opposite hand) foul shot or three pointer.
I could see this getting out of hand when an NBA player without a good ejumacashun misspells HORSE
"K, Lemme ax you, whut's nex? I gots a W-H-O-R"
You have to know that some of these guys were approached about playing horse and they totally thought whores, and were all in favour of that.
I think the NBA is like Russia before the revolution. No middle class. You have wonderfully intelligent people or woefully witless intellectual peons, and no one is just average.
