Getting Rid of Junk Car
I was wondering if anyone had perspective on using an auto wrecker vs. Tax Donation for a Dead car.
I have a 10yr old Audi that suffered a severe engine failure and needs a complete rebuild. The price of that work equals the cost of the car, so its pointless.
I looked at selling to a mechanic, but a few came out only to say not worth it. So I think these options are my last ones.
Anyone else in this spot, and figured out best route?

Just google it. There are many local outfits that will take it for charity if that's your goal. Pick n Pull might even give you some cash for the vehicle if you want to recoup something but it won't be much.

Quoting myself from another thread:

They're an example of why many distrust charity groups.

Audi? Story checks out. Never buying German again.
Just this past weekend my wife backed into another car. Piece of crap Tiguan that has turned into Money pit mode. I wanted to get rid of 4 months ago, but no.
She just has a broken tail light. But she throws in the nice tidbit that it was shuttering and does not want to drive it which makes sense. Just had an oil change so wondering if they screwed something up, which I have heard is not that uncommon. Probably just a german car out of warrantee.

I had 134K when the engine fails. The German Mechanic said VW 2.0L 4cyl are common to completely fail. I too am off German.

I did it with Kidney foundation with my old car years ago. Would use them again if needed.

Kidney Foundation. I think they'll even come and pick it up and you'll get a Tax Receipt for the donation.

I hate you. Not just because they're a garbage organization or the fact that the goddamned jingle is now back in my brain but...what are Kidz supposed to do with Karz?

Call a reputable junker. They come to you, take it away, give you cash.
Oof, I think my parents may have gone with that kars for kids one for their old truck.. Not ideal. I won't tell them so they don't feel too bad about it after the fact.

+1 for Kidney foundation. Pretty reputable and relatively easy to deal with.
I think worst case the car is junk, they still get scrap value for it which they'd use towards operations. IDK if they also repair some of the vehicles they get to do similar things or how that works.

Typically I just ditch it on the side of 4x4's property.

Adam is the only guy you want to deal with.
Been in the business forever. He'll give you an honest quote and you can decide from there if it's worth it to sell it to him or go another route.

Also anyone with this engine, ditch it now.
Mine started guzzling engine oil, wish I knew it was precursor to complete fail, but I held too long
