Default Habs and Jackets swap backup tenders

The Habs have acquired Jonas Hiller from the Jackets. In return, the Habs send Hannu Toivonen, along with Nathan McIver and Andre Petersson.

McIver is a 22-year old d-man who has playing semi-regularly with the Ducks. He'll be on the squad full-time once Niedermayer moves on. Petersson is a 4th round pick from last year who has made some great strides this year and played very well at the WJC. Considering the Sens lack of prospects, Petersson has a very real chance of making the NHL.

We are pleased to acquire Hiller, a backup for the Ducks this year. We aren't sure he has the skills to be a #1 guy, but he is a solid backup and this helps us moving forward.

Thanks Jason for the negotiations.

Alright I'll add some insight so as to not be completely useless.

Classic quantity for quality deal, Curtis gave up a few guys that have decent potential but got the best piece back. Overall I like it from the Habs perspective.

I like the move ror the Habs. Hiller is stuck behind Giguere and will need a pretty good raise. But with a mid tier starter in Bryzgalov you can afford a pricier backup. The pieces going out to me are a whole lot of meh. In time I could be wrong though, but it'll be a lot of time until I have to eat that crow.

Well the Jackets moved Hiller mainly because he could not complete a game, I cannot remember the last time I started him and he made it without getting pulled. With Garon not being able to stay healthy we had to get a new backup and this fell onto our laps. Hopefully the change of scenery will make Toivonen happy and he will play well for us.
Plus we get two young good prospects which should help soon.
