An eye for an eye
This is disturbing, especially since it seems to be the second time for this guy...

He did the act while in jail. It says he was moved to a psychiatric facility, but that is hardly being "out of jail". The guy is on death row. I don't think he's going anywhere.

Wow, I'm not necessarily a supporter of the death penalty, but if there was ever a person it is appropriate for, this guy is it!

Eye don't 'see' anything wrong with this.
That's pretty gross and messed up. But I doubt this guy is going anywhere, and even if he did, IMO he'd be a little disadvantaged at causing harm being that he has NO eyes. In a way, it might do the justice system some favor to have all deranged criminals conveniently disable themselves like this.

The real question:
Is it okay to execute someone who is mentally ill?
There's a good chance this guy just has no hold on reality and was incapable of forming the intent needed to be convicted of murder.
Its kind of sad that this guy may actually have been mentally ill and convicted of murder. Meanwhile, people who fake it are probably better at weasiling their way out of a conviction.

Too bad he'll only have a half of his vision field available to see the emotions of the family members of his victim(s) when he is executed.

The article said he had done it before with his other eye, he's completely blind now.
I wonder what raw eye tastes like.
Is it wrong that this is the biggest question/concern I have after reading this story?
Sometimes things are just too in your face or out there to be able to come up with an appropriate emotional response.

I think the question should be, is it ok to execute anyone, I would suggest not.

I think so. Whether he is nuts or not he still killed his family. Being a lunatic doesn't give you the right to murder your wife and kids.

Deoxyribonucleic Acid, for example... sounds impressive, right? But have you ever seen what happens if you put something in acid? It dissolves! If we had all this acid in our cells, we'd all dissolve! So much for the Theory of Evolution, Check MATE!

In order to commit murder you need a certain level of mental culpability and intent. It's not murder if you're so crazy you don't know what you're doing.

It opens up an interesting discussion...
obivously the courts found him guilty without any doubt and that's why he's on death row...but could an inmate than develop a mental illness while in jail and thus disqualify him from a more severe punishment?
