Default Golden Globes 2009

Some interesting winners in this possible Oscar preface. Slumdog Millionarie a big winner. Heath Ledger wins best supporting actor, and a breath of air into Mickey Rourke's career.

I actually just finished watching Slumdog Millionaire and it is probably my favourite movie I've seen so far this year (second is probably In Bruge). Awesome imagery, great story, great music. . .it has everything I want in a movie.

I really enjoyed Milk and was rooting for Sean Penn but I haven't seen The Wrestler...I really like director Darren Aranovsky and it's the next movie I want to see. I'm a little disappointed though that Penn didn't win. I was surprised that Eastwood wasn't nominated for Gran Torino...I don't think it was the best performance of the year but it was pretty darn good.

The Office was robbed, it is way better than 30 Rock. Also, what is the difference between the golden globes and the oscars? I don't get it.

There are no television awards at the oscars. I'm sure there are other differences but that is the los obvious.

The biggest difference is that the Oscars or "Academy Awards" are voted on by members of the Academy (past winners, industry types etc...).

The Golden Globes is voted on and host by the Hollywood Foreign Press

Was it me or was the production quality (is that the right wording?) really terrible last night?

It seemed most of the presenters had no idea what they were doing and some seemed drunk (Drew Barrymore/Jessica Lange), you could here the "audience" talking whenever someone was on stage and they did a terrible job of letting you know what the award was that was being handed out and who everyone was that was nominated.

It really seemed like more of an event where fake hollywood losers could go mingle with other fake hollywood losers and pat each other on the back.

The oscars may take forever but at least they are somewhat professionally done and people don't act like jackasses while there.

Also, I know that it is required to act as though anyone who has died was the greatest person who ever lived but perhaps they can tone down the Heath Ledger was the greatest actor that ever lived BS.

I've seen both and I liked Milk better. I also thought Sean Penn deserved the nod over Rourke, but it was still a pretty damn good performance by Rourke and it makes for a nice feel-good kind of comeback story, so I don't mind it in that sense.

I was actually a bit disappointed with Gran Torino. Not that its a bad movie, its just that I've come to expect big things from Clint Eastwood and this one fell short of his last couple, imo.

I'm actually pretty surprised for all the wins by Slumdog Millionare. I thought it was entertaining enough but not movie of the year quality.

Nice to see Vicki Cristina Barcelona get a win in the comedy category. I really enjoyed that one. In Bruges was great as well, so I wouldn't have minded if that one took it.

I'm probably going to go and see the Wrestler at some point, I've always been a fan of Mickey Rourke.

Since I'm still celebrating my Sean Penn boycott for life, I probably won't see Milk at all, no matter how good it is.

I don't usually watch awards shows, but my wife and I were doing some work in the living room, and I had forced her to watch football all day, so she made the call.

I found the setup strange, with the dinner tables and all the noise and such. Good to see Bruce Springsteen win, he should have sung the song though.

Anna Paquin getting Best actress for True Blood!!! I am absolutely hooked on that show. Brilliant concept and really well executed. Dark, twisted, sad, tragic, funny.....like Alan Ball's previous brilliant work, Six Feet Under.

My wife couldn't stop talking about how unprofessional the Golden Globes are, while I like them for the fact that people seem to be more casual, laid back, and easy going at this show. No fans on the inside, more jabs and jokes (Cheadle had me in tears).

Other differences between Oscars and GGs:
- The Globes don't rush at the begining of the show, and rush the important awards at the end. Completely different to the Oscars.
- The Globes recognize the difference between Drama and Comedy in movies, but not the difference between Comedy and miniseries in Television.
- The Globes don't have a host.
- The Globes, for the most part, don't rely on clips of the person in the role.
- The Globes usually find someone in the bathroom, or have someone swear or stick up a middle finger in the middle of their acceptance speeches.
- The Globes are a good indication of what to expect when the Oscars announce nominations.

Where's it playing.

I'm trying to convince the girl that I'm seeing that this is a great movie to see, but she can't get by the title.
