I'm Korean myself and that place is pretty good, although expensive. I also recomend the Bow Bul Go Gi on 17th Ave SW across from Ernest Manning High School, although it is small and looks a little junkie, it has one of the best Korean BBQ in Calgary.

I go there at least once a week for lunch and always get the lunch special.

There's another good one on 10th ave and I think 12 street SW. No idea what it's called, but it's as good as Bow Bulgogi. Bigger as well, so you don't have to worry about getting in or not.

There's another one further down 10th on about 3rd street that's pretty good as well.

So how does a real Korean restaurant compare with the food court deliciousness of Koryo? I've never been to real Korean restaurant but if they can put out meat and potatoes as fantastic as the stuff at Koryo, I'll have to check it out.

Haha even the "real" Korean restaurants in town are nowhere near what you would find if you were actually IN Korea. With that being said, food court Korean is not even close.

I travel there quite a bit, and it's hands down my favorite food. It's light, lots of veggies, and if you eat enough kimchi you will build up a natural defence to SARS. (okay, that last part is a myth, but it gives me an excuse to eat A LOT of it every time I go).

I'd recommend beef bulgogi to anyone. In fact, I might go for some tonight!

And if you have never gone before, I'd suggest watching a few videos on youtube "how to eat Korean BBQ". That way you're not confused when all the dishes roll out.

And order pajeon (Korean pancake). I love those almost as much as I love pizza.

Dae Jang Geum. I disagree that it's better than Bow Bulgogi though.

That's Royal Seoul I think.

Yeah, absolutely kid friendly.

Make reservations if you're going on a Friday or Saturday night.

A real Korean restaurant is A LOT better... you're in Ottawa right? Not sure if it's still there (I think it is), but there's a place that's sort of hidden that serves up great, authentic Korean food that's owned and operated by a couple.

It's close to Rideau and King Ed., east of King Ed... on Besserer, Daly or Stewart and intersects with either Nelson, Friel or Chapel (sorry, forgot the exact address)... it's called Kwon's Chicken House or something like that and is actually sandwiched in between a bunch of houses on both sides of it, in the middle of a residential neighborhood. If you go and check it out, order the Chicken Kalbi table cooking meal. Good for two people.

EDIT: Address is 332 Wilbrod.

Here's some glowing reviews: http://www.restaurantica.com/on/otta...ouse/23004245/

Oh yeah, if you order that Chicken Kalbi table cooking... leave room for the seaweed fried rice that the owner cooks for you after the meal with the left over sauce you have... delicious!

Best. Korean. In. Calgary.

Hands down.

Perfectly prepared, very nicely priced. The owners are the nicest people I've met.

I knew the old owners of that place very well since I was like 6-7? Now that it is owned by new owners the food just does not taste the same..
