Guitar Hero with a REAL Guitar
Finally for all the people that said guitar hero players are losers because it is not a real guitar well now you can be both.
Coming out this summer is a new game where you use a reall guitar with colored strings to play the notes. Sure it is by Disney but it is only time before they make one for rock band and such.
It will only be for the PC and Mac as well, but same thing, it is only a matter of time before it comes out for the gaming systems.

The problem with this to learn the guitar is it involves concurrent modelling (ie playing as it tells you on the screen), which actually inhibits learning.
A cool premise that will make learning guitar fun, but you're not going to be able to step back and play the song without the software after learning it with, but at least you'll learn the motions, etc, and it will definitely help with learning.
I don't think games like guitar hero will change to more realistic guitars as it takes a step away from video gaming, and I think that's where the market is.

^ Unless they had a game called "Guitar Teacher" that was aimed specifically at the new beginner building up some chops.
I reccomend the Steve Vai method, personally.

Is that the one where you grow up as buddies with Joe Satrianni and get personal lessons from him?
That package isn't easy for the average guitar student to get!!!

HAHAHAHAHA!
Ahem, no.
Steve Vai wrote a manual for newbie guitar players to teach themselves but it is a set of progressively harder exercises. You don't move on until you can play what you're working on really well. Its designed primarily to help build up hand and arm strength/dexterity so you can practice longer and harder without hurting yourself.

I play real guitar hero all the time, throw on some Cult, Guns N' Roses or Megadeth on the stereo and play along with my Ibanez and Marshall.
It's awesome, but I've been stuck on the Hangar 18 solos for the past 18 years.

Yeah, that's about the only plus about guitar hero. Good backing tracks with the guitar parts isolated out.

I have both, GH2 and 3, and RB 1 and 2. Then I have a real guitar. Works for me.
