Default Great tattoo artists in Calgary?

I am looking for a good tattoo artist in Calgary. I need one tattoo from my youth fixed and want another one with done with wheat as the main part. Does anyone have any suggestions? I got my last one done at To The Point but was not happy with it at all.

Living Color is where I got mine done. You'd have to look them up on the web as Casey is working out of a private studio now

Casey is good. He did my first one a long time ago.
I got another one a few years ago at immaculate concepts. I think Darren did mine there. I don't think you can go wrong with either Casey or any of the artists at IC.

I find Smiling Buddha over priced. Bushido is another place I wouldn't go to. An ex of mine got stars done on her stomach, and they weren't done that well.

I found Casey to be kind of a jackass. You'd bring in a design and he'd always want to do his own little twists and alterations to it and get cranky if you said no. I had a friend stop going to him because she got fed up with it.

What about something the size of the palm of your hand?
Do the colours cost diffferent, difficulty?
Most places charge per hour...Living Color was $150/hour last time I got ink done

Most places do charge by the hour, and when you make your appointment, they ask that you give a deposit.

Something the size of a toonie, depending on how detailed it is, probably would take about 30 minutes. Since that is kind of small, i don't think it would be too detailed.

The piece I have on my upper back took about 3.5 hours. It's not very detailed, but it goes from shoulder to shoulder and takes up most of my upper back.

I actually prefer artists that are willing to make a design their own, but at the same time are willing to make compromises to make sure the client is happy as well.
From the sounds of it, it looks like Casey isn't big on compromise.

I am not sure what other artists are like or their theories on tattooing. Casey is certainly one of a kind. His theory is quite simple... I am the artist and it is MY art that I am putting on your body. With input from you (a theme or some other ideas) he will create his "art". If you like it, he will tattoo it. If you don't, go somewhere else. He will do some minor tweaks or changes but the general sketch will stay the same. Look at it this way, he has been doing it for a long time, if he is wanting to do his own twists or alterations, maybe your design is terrible and in the long run, it might be something that either won't look good or you will regret.

Do not go to him and ask him to do a Superman symbol or Calvin and Hobbes or something silly like that. He will certainly not be happy.

He is one of the top artists in Calgary and is well respected in the tattoo community. You don't have to like your artist to get good work.

I see it that way, but I also see it in the way that its MY body, and I may possibly want my own ideas... not some strangers Idea of what MY tattoo should look like.

Like if I draw up a tattoo of my own, I dont want some clown ruining it by trying to make it his own.

I can certainly understand that theory. Thing is, it's his rep (interesting when you consider some of the opinions of good and bad tattoo artists in this thread) and as such, he wants the art to look like it should be.

For example, cherry blossoms (a rather common tattoo these days) are a certain colour and grow on a tree. Asking him to do them a different colour, for example blue, and on a vine or something, is just something he won't do regardless of whether you like it or drew it.

Again, if you don't share that theory, don't even think of calling him.
