Default Telus Data in North Eastern BC?

So I have family living in NE BC that still have (gasp) dial-up. My parents just got satellite internet, but it was very pricy, both for setup and monthly fees - and to top it off, is barely an upgrade over dialup (but at least you don't have to have a nap while loading some web pages).

They were told by Telus that there is no wireless data services up in their area, but just stopped at Telus store, and they said if there is a cell tower then can get Telus wireless data at about 700kbps. So now, am suitably confused.

So - anyone have any experience with using Telus (or Rogers) wireless data services up in the Chetwynd/Dawson Creek area of BC?

Well, apparently they have the 3G network in that area. http://www.telusmobility.com/bc/coverage/1x_home.shtml That's what they are referring to. So I'm not sure why there wouldn't be unless they are in the boonies?
