Best calamari .... or any other specialty food, in Calgary?
For calamari, IMO, its OPA at Chinook Mall. Everytime I eat at the Chinook Mall food court, I order the calamari with ceasar salad, and its a rare occurence that it isn't tender and tasty. I espicially like the fact that you can have them squirt some Franks RedHot sauce (which only seems to be available at the Chinook OPA) on it too... delicious.
I will have to admit though, the best calamari I ever ate was at the Silver Tip Golf Club out at Canmore. Extemely tender and tasty.

For chinese buffet, I like the Emperor Restaurant and Buffet on MacLeod Trail S (corner of MacLeod & Southand Dr)
I tried Treasures of China, and didn't really care for it. I've tried the Homefood Inn, and its ok, but I think the food is better at the Emperor.

I don't know... Red Deer seems to be a pretty long way to travel for a meal. Whats your specialty and do you take reservations?

I feel like and earls rep these days with the other thread on ribs BUT they do have a mean Calamari. Hand cut and breaded daily (I used to work there) and always good. You do have me wanting to try out OPA at Chinook now though, that sounds like a tasty little lunch.

The calamari at Cactus Club is pretty good now, they changed it this year sometime (I think) and it has red peppers in with it. Quite tasty.

I had the Calamari at V (old fuel) last week and was pretty impressed. Best I have had in quite a while.
Might check out OPA in the near future as well... I'm assuming the one in DT would serve Calamari too.

It must be good at all Opa's. I had it on 130 ave SE and it was great. A little tzatsiki and wammo. good stuff. Surprised me how good it was. Nothing worse than that gross rubber ring like substance that I've had at a few restaurants. Opa seems to be the real deal.

I just thought your conversation with yourself could have been broken up a bit.
But if anyone is passing through Red Deer, All Greek to Me has awesome Calamari.

Sorry to get OT since it's not AB
But after travelling all over Italy, Turkey, Greece, and Australia, the best place for Calamari is in Sydney, Australia. Right in Darwin Harbour, there are vendors that sell the stuff in paper bags. $6 (Australian) and they were prefectly crispy and salted just right. Perfect with a Victoria Bitter (Aussies laugh at you if you drink Fosters, it's not Australian for beer)

I like the spicy Calamari at East Side Mario's. I think it is called Calamari El Diablo or something (I could be way off on the name).

Reef n' Beef! Don't get me started. I will NEVER go back there. My wife and I made reservations one year and ended up waiting over an hour for a table. Being New Year's, there wasn't really anywhere else to go. In hindsight we should have just gone home and made a frozen pizza. When we (finally) were seated, we ordered steak and lobster tails. The steaks come out and they're the same fataing steaks they put on their stupid $3.99 steak sandwiches. I will never - EVER - set foot in that place again, even if it is on someone else's dime.
Best steak I've had in the city was at Caesar's downtown, though I haven't been to some other well-known places.
Best "fast" pizza place is Sarpino's in McKenzie Towne for me.
