Default Mystery Money

I recently had an unexpected deposit into my bank account labeled Canada RIT. Is this normal for this time of year? or should I expect it to disappear as quickly as it came.

You always wonder about these mistakes... A good reason to keep close track of your accounts.

Once I made a 5 figures big payment on my Amex after a big purchase.. except Amex never got it, so when they called asking what happened, I'd never missed a payment before I got worried. In the end it was Amex's fault, they applied it to the wrong account.

What if it'd been a smaller amount and I never noticed it?
