I think some of those, like the 1995 Dodge's are popular for theives just because they are probably easy to steal.

How many Audi Roadsters are there on the road that they can make a top 10 stolen list?
Chrysler has 4 of the top 10, Honda/Acura has 4 of the top 10

Makes a bigger exit when you smash through the front of a store.

Nothing wrong with any of those things. I can't believe you'd say there is something wrong with them!

i remember my buddy locked his keys in his civic. When the AMA guy arrived he just kinda laughed at him and unlocked the door in less than 10 seconds. I knew they were easy to break into but wow.

Mid 80's chryslers take less than 5 seconds with a coat hangar behind the latch.. Even someone with no knowledge of where to pull up could figure it out in 5 mins or less.

Some vehicles are stolen more then other simply because there are more of them in the whole pool of cars.
Different reasons why a car might be stolen more than another car.
-There's more of them (part of the reason why Civics are always high on the list)
-They are easier to steal
-They are desirable

I think most auto thefts are crimes of opportunity. It's usuallty not like in movies where they target high end vehicles in order to re-sell them or "chop" them. I'm not saying that there isn't some of that, because I know there is, but I would bet that most auto thefts are just for joy rides or temporary transportation.
For example, the area I grew up in had a lot of auto thefts and probably 90% of the time, the cars would be retreived from small rural communities where someone from there was in town and didn't have a ride back. For obvious purposes, it makes sense to steal an easy target and one that isn't eye catching.
In high school, I worked for a car rental company, and quite often; especially in the winter, I would have to go to rural towns or reserves to retrieve stolen vehicles. Heck, a lot of the time, we would get anonymous calls from people telling us where the vehicles were, which were probably from the people who stole the vehicle. Or sometimes the band office would call us and let us know that they had our car.

And there is obviously the "thrill" involved in stealing. Most people who own '96 Neon's would probably just give up the keys as long as you ask politely and let them get their cd's.

I'm surprised how those old cars can make the top 10 list.

Yeah.... I mean there must be a **** load of 1995 Dodge Voyagers still driving around, in order for them still to be able to make the top 10 list, let alone hit #4...

Notice how the newest car on here is the 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX/WRX STi 4-door AWD. Now thats a car worth stealing.
The others? Blaaaah.
Are newer cars just harder to steal nowadays?

Somebody tried to steal my F-350 last winter. The cop that took my statement told me that the number one stolen vehicle in Alberta was the Ford F-350. He was obviously humoring me.

I'd be willing to bet that 1/3 of those stolen cars occurred in the lower mainland by a bunch of heroin addicts and crackheads.
Sorry Van city, you have some nice areas but your city can be a real dump. The other 2/3 were probably in Winterpeg.

Don't kid yourself. Every time we see statistics on crime. Regina and Saskatoon are at, or near the top of the list.
