Telus TV
Well.......Telus were phoning me all week,a couple times a day and yesterday I finally answered it. Just wondering if anyone has Telus TV? They are offering a free HD PVR if you sign up for 3 yrs. They'll also upgrade your internet and bundle it all together. So you'll get phone, cable and internet for 90 some bucks. It sounds like a good deal.

well on their website they say HD-ready PVR, and in their channel listing the HD channels are greyed out so Telus doesn't have the bandwidth yet for high def from the looks of it. something to keep in mind if you currently have HDTV

I just switched off of it. I managed to talk my way out of the one year contract by pointing out that it sucks balls. She agreed with me and canned my TV contract if I agreed to stick with their internet for 5 more months. Deal.
The reasons I didn't like it are:
- the stupid black squares that would appear way too often. It's not satellite. WTF?
- you need a box for every TV. I didn't think I'd care since I rarely watch TV, let alone in my bedroom. But every so often I get into a good sciency/geek show late at night and want to keep watching until I fall asleep. Can't do it unless I bring the stupid box to my room, or else pay for another one monthly, that I'll use maybe once a month
- the channels are all different. That's just a pain in the ass. Friends come over and instead of them just knowing to jump from 21 to 22 to 27 to 30, I gotta tell them 111, 115, etc. A minor annoyance, but hey, as long as I'm bitching...
- Contract. Why? Because you know that your service sucks and that I'll want to switch back in a month? Haha! You got me!!
- there was one channel that I couldn't get from Telus. 99.9% of people would never care about this channel, but I wanted it and couldn't have it.
Of course, there were a few good things about it...
- the remote is way better than the awkward one that comes from Shaw. Maybe it's just me, but I think the Shaw remote sucks. The buttons are not easy to click unless you look at the thing. And that said, the other good thing about the Telus remote is that it lights up. Bonus.
- The extra channels from the eastern time zones are part of the deal. For roughly the same price as I pay for Shaw, I got the same stuff from Telus except that Telus also included the Toronto Global, CTV, etc and a few other cities.

Actually, more people care about the Fireplace Arm Guy than you might imagine.

Two channels...
And as a side note, FPAG helped me answer a question I had on a test today. One of the things I knew was going to be on the test was going to ask the 4 ways a contract with a sub trade can end. The answers are Breach, Performance, Agreement and Frustration...
All I had to remember was FPAB

Telus does have HD. I have it. Not sure if its available in all areas right now though. I didn't know they offered a PVR though. That's new. It seems they have been taking steps to improve their service recently, so hopefully its a sign that things are going to improve steadily over the next year.

in addition to this, if you're a regular internet user whenever you have a TV on that's hooked up to Telus TV your bandwidth is halved. they stream their video over the internet in MPEG4 format (thus the black squares) so it takes up a huge chunk of bandwidth. i'd assume for those that do have HD it would use more

I have it and I think used the same package theyre giving you when we switched just a month or so ago. It sucked for the first little bit because the moron put the receiver in our basement surrounded by concrete where my cellphone cant even get texts. So they came back and moved it and it works fine now. It does move a little slower if youre on the internet, but I havent noticed any black squares that you guys are talking about. My biggest gripe (and maybe someone can point me in the direction of finding it of thereis one) but there is no page up/down button on the remote so you have to go through 300+ channels one by one instead of 10 at a time on the menu. Quite annoying.

Assuming you have the same remote as I do, just use the channel button instead of the directional buttons. It says CH/PG with a + and - on it.

I looked into telus hd tv.... but their pvr is only single chanel, therefore you can only record one tv show at a time instead of two, or if you are recording a show, you can't do that and watch another chanel at the same time.... which really sucks.

Which really limits the effectiveness of a PVR.
